add $150 to what your spending and build an entire computer then sell your dell as is or give it to your kids.

dell uses notoriously slow hdd and the parts in them are all proprietary (not like anything else) so you have to buy cheaply made overpriced "dell ready" parts.

build your own and you never need to buy another computer, you just upgrade whatever part you want to later if needed but your not stuck with crappy dell parts.

im saying dell dell dell here but the same goes for any prebuilt computers, Dell, HP, Gateway (do they still have these?), they are all good for "basic" needs but if you want a really good computer that plays games well build your own.

Yes, Gateway still does exist, but it is mainly in the business machine market, like Interstate Batteries uses them for most of their computers... And trust me, they aren't built to play games. Also, you are right by saying that you would be better off building your own for gaming... been doing it for the last 15 or so years... Just have to do some research on the part you want to use, reliability, performance, tech support, warranties length and service times.

I needed to upgrade long ago, but I've been putting it off. I'll be building a new rig after the new year, but not just because of SH5.

Seeadler 12-13-09 06:00 PM

don't need to upgrade:D

theluckyone17 12-13-09 06:25 PM

I'm upgrading, but not specifically for SH5. I'm big into Oblivion, too... and some of the mods I've been running are CPU hungry. I work for a fairly large retail chain doing tech work, so I get to reap the benefits by collecting Intel hardware on the cheap.

Going from a Dual Core E6300 @ 1.86 GHz to a Core i7 860; from 3 GB to 4 GB of memory. I'll stick with the 9600GT for right now, though I might grab a GTS 250 in a few months if the system goes GPU limited.

I'm not a hardware pro, but I'm asking to all you guys in the modding community, do you think futur mods for SHV could possibly ask more on your specs.

Maybe two or three years after the release someone or some team are gonna make a major “breakthrough environmental modding” and maybe your GPU won't be able to keep all graphic options enabled?

The point i'm trying to make is that it seems more clever to wait in mid/late 2010 and buy a new rig with a new generation of GPU rather than make an upgrade right now and be forced to get a new rig in 2 or 3 years (if you want to keep all graphic options enabled).

I'd be thankful if someone with deep knowledge in hardware could give his opinion about this. :ping:

they always do, especially any kind of large environmental mod

i would say that whatever you need to run strictly stock very well you can add an additional 50% more to that to run very well using large mods, it may not work out that way but its a good rule of thimb to get you prepared just in case.

Thanks!

I think I'm gonna wait and see how SHV runs on my rig (it's not gonna be great but I hope it's not gonna be awful) then I'll check prices and see if I can wait.

IanC 12-14-09 12:30 AM

The only thing I'll be able to keep from my current rig, is the keyboard and mouse. :damn:

BulSoldier 12-14-09 07:15 AM

I think mine 2gb of ram and 3800 dual core athlon are ok but with 7950gt 512ram i think i should look around for an upgrade.Sadly the gpu`s here are with 70$ above the us prices...

ReallyDedPoet 12-14-09 09:06 AM

Maybe later on. I'll see how my current rig runs it first.

I'll wait for the reactions of the community on SH5 and all the UBI-bugfixes and perhaps some essential SH5-mods. This means, I'll start playing SH5 in 2011 or 2012. I'm a late-bloomer - I just finished modding my SH3/GWX and now I'll finally start my first SH3-career. Advantage: SH3-capable hardware is cheap now. The same will be 2012 with SH5-capable hardware.
