Seriously though area unlocks? WTF? Is this a sim or a platform X-Box port?

The question I've got is around this statement:

I'd be very interested to see what this means.

i hope they are both related and the unlocked areas are new bases and resupply stations in areas YOU claim after sinking enemy ships.

something along the lines of drive out the enemy and take over areas you normally wouldnt control.

i hope its something like that and not going the way of secret areas and Xbox style lucky charms or rewards :nope:

i think they are taking the sim out of simulator and if there is no sim then i'll tell ubi no thanks cya later

I donīt like the word "unlock" in this game, :nope: perhaps this is for boats and new bases based in the war progress , but the possibility of "Walls " in the ocean closed grids or missions like in a arcade game is a game killer and worrying for a subsim like SH .

I'm hoping it refers to the discussions we had in Houston concerning the possibility of advanced AI planning - If you have a lot of success in one location they'll start sending destroyers there, just to look for you. Also the possibility of one or two escorts being sent to hunt you while the rest maintain station, 'just in case'.

Are you kidding me ?!! For the love of Buddah they're not going to add that "unlock next level" crap to this type of game are they ? Do they do research on gamers and average gamer age ? I do not know of anyone....ANYONE... that thinks this feature unlock mechanism is in ANYWAY enjoyable.

It is, without a shadow of a doubt, a complete load of bollox!:nope:

I agree that the use of the term "unlock" makes me nervous, but I think that's a pretty extreme reaction when we don't even know exactly what they meant by it. If they do mean what you think they mean, then I'll be right there helping you fight it, but considering the little we've been given so far I'm willing to wait and see how they reply to this.

I just hope that we can get a few 1UP mushrooms. Maybe a fireball plant and an invincible star to boot.

The dynamic campaign system allows to planning and the development of own strategies. Each combat will affect the overall scenario. It will also be possible to unlock and gain access to new areas. Furthermore the A.I. will adjust its reactions to the behavior of the player.
They could as well have written "the sky is blue" instead of this ^^.
Planning and developing own strategies - nothing new.
Combats effect the overall scenario - naturally, because sunk ships will be missing from the simulation afterwards
AI will adjust to player's actions - duh ... if you surface, you get shelled. If you dive, you get DC'ed.

They should have used the space of these sentences for screenshots instead...

Now this sounds much more like an interesting idea. It is also something I wondered whether it was included in SH4 already but never got any evidence of it.
Like if you are showing up in a harbour - even it is empty - and get caught doing so, they might send more Anti-Submarine ships into the area. Such things make the player feel much more involved.

Which will be first ? :p2: A Super Mod or a Crack to Unlock everything. :har:

This is something I remember wishing for in SH3. Sailing to the Caribbean and sitting on a choke point and sinking tanker after tanker, day after day seemed like cheating. They would have rerouted traffic and sent patrols if they knew a U-boat was hunting in one spot.

Uber Gruber 12-08-09 06:15 PM

Wow...I just sunk my 2nd ship in the same convoy.....giving me access to Uber Bernard who's just brilliant at estimating ranges.

Oh no! I just sunk a neutral. Now I have to endure a baldy looking death sonar man for the next 3 patrols...bugger!

UG:arrgh!:

That and or possibly more coordinated attacks by escorts such as the Creeping Attack, Raspberry or Pineapple based on where your attack on the convoy comes from?

That would be awesome. I doubt it'd be very hard for the devs to implement, too.

Torplexed 12-08-09 11:56 PM

Maybe they're talking about unlocking....locks? :D Yes, I am kidding.

:rotfl2:

You have unlocked: No more coastal minefields. :yeah:

IMHO though the article is hardly authoritive. I mean "According to Ubisoft" and "The points listed are said to be looking better" are hardly words from an informative previewer.
