Kewl, Thanks for sharing the pics & info!

Great Pictures, the crew on the pictures seem enjoying the time they spent surfaced, staying underwater for hours and hours waiting waiting waiting or worst having depth charged , these guys know how to enjoy a bit of swimming even on duty.

Wow.
and then the PB4Ys show up. :o when they do that, they are sitting ducks! Nothing for weak nerves, and needs a lot of training too. all you need is good men...:hmmm: |
Ah. Photo 565 (of U-564) is a very famous one, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that that's KvtKpt 'Teddy' Suhren's boat, and while reloading/refuelling at the Mich Cow boat U-459, BdU ordered him to take some torpedoes off a homeward-bound boat. By chance it was an instructor from Murwik, the Naval Academy, who picked on Suhren a bit and said he'd never amount to anything.
Surhen, by now outranking and out-Iron Crossing his instructor, suggested that they strap lifejackets to the torpedoes and floated the torpedoes between the boats (until one lifejacket failed and they dropped a torpedo). |
