Great Pictures, the crew on the pictures seem enjoying the time they spent surfaced, staying underwater for hours and hours waiting waiting waiting or worst having depth charged , these guys know how to enjoy a bit of swimming even on duty.

Ah. Photo 565 (of U-564) is a very famous one, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that that's KvtKpt 'Teddy' Suhren's boat, and while reloading/refuelling at the Mich Cow boat U-459, BdU ordered him to take some torpedoes off a homeward-bound boat. By chance it was an instructor from Murwik, the Naval Academy, who picked on Suhren a bit and said he'd never amount to anything.

Surhen, by now outranking and out-Iron Crossing his instructor, suggested that they strap lifejackets to the torpedoes and floated the torpedoes between the boats (until one lifejacket failed and they dropped a torpedo).

I believe I know the picture your referring to but that is not what the caption says....the picture is very similar.

Good spot. Probably should have seen that ... maybe they did it more than once? Apparently when he dropped that one eel there was a big inquiry about it ...
