Yes to sandbox mode, there are "challenges" as well, though the list is empty. Perhaps for downloaded user-created scenarios. :hmmm:
In sandbox mode, you set a number of parameters for the island, click generate, select your Presidente and just play. There are no objectives at start, but there might be random, optional ones as you play, haven't really checked it out yet. |
Thanks for the tip SteamWake. Got Tropico 2 music and it's nice. I also acquired some music by 'Buena Vista Social Club' and it's good. I've read that I should check out Tito Puente too. I remember the name, but I don't think I've ever heard much of his music. I also have these so named 'Cigar Lounge' cd's. There are some gems on there.

Well I finally got my copy (via steam) last night.
All I can say is the graphics blew me away. The demo does not do it justice. The day/night cycles is really nice with some spectacular sunsets. I tried to run with everything maxed and while it ran it was a little bit laggy so I changed it to "Ultra" and it still looks good and runs fine. I really only got to play a short while last night and am still getting started on the first 'chapter' "Fruita's" of the campaign". Not doing so well actually but hey its my first time... heh ... there are some strategic changes from the previous version. The music is okay but limited and repetative and no where near as good as Tropico 2. |
Well crap, just when I was beginning to get back in the swing something has happened.
I went to save a game and it froze up and now I cant start a map  I have some posts over on their 'offical' forums but no response yet. Grrrrrr... Ill keep you posted. |
reason #15235 why I don't like steam
Pain in the butt having to do a complete reinstall. I suspect your save files are corrupted, I would try finding them and move them out of the folder (ie soft delete) them. |
It required a removal of local content, then manually removing all other remaining remanants of the game and a re-install.
Its working now. |

I bought this about a month ago when it was on sale on steam. I love the game, but I suck at it. Within a year my country crumbles. :haha:
The main problem I have is setting up the infrastructure takes too long in my opinion. Anyone have advice? |
My advice is to build 3 or even 4 Construction Offices; having dozens of builders will ensure all further projects get built in a decent time.
On the other hand, if you do this you must use your building prowess to generate a source of income fast, as paying all those builders will be quite a drain on your budget. Later on, when all the basics are up and running and you are turning a steady profit you can begin tearing these Construction Offices down to a single one if you need the space for something else or if you think they are ugly or if you want to boost your profits further by moving those builders to lucrative jobs. |
Also check out the layer thingy that shows where resources are high, and build different types of farms, etc.
|
2 or so farms for food, and 2 or more cash-crops. Surplus food can be sold, and the cash-crops harvest goes directly to export. Good basis to start from before you move into more substantial industry.
Also, it takes a while for crops to grow; farms aren't profitable the first year. Keep money in reserve to get through the first 1-2 years (~5000-10000). I think your just spending too much. :hmmm: |
I'll try the tips.
I really want the expansion just so I can have gravel roads. :haha: |
So I've given up on Tropico 3 until the expansion pack. Mainly because I want Gravel roads. :haha:
|
So doods! Tropico 3 Steam Ed is on sale for only $7.50 right now... I'm gonna check it out. Just thought I'd let everyone know.
|
Expansion "Absolute Power" available for purchase. :yeah:
