Did notice late war in 44 plane traffic near Formosa is unrealistic. All day long usually 8 planes on you when you surface. I do like plane traffic around convoys. Realistic and makes you think. Can't recall last time I saw a zero attacking me unless a carrier was near. |
I've noticed in 1.7 and 1.8 both, both which I've played extensively, that a/c traffic really varies. Sometimes it is quite heavy and I begin to wonder if it's unrealistic, and then a few hours/miles later they may disappear. I usually play with RSRDC attached to whatever version of TMO I play, but bottom line, I think the a/c situation in these mods is about right. You never know what you'll run into--seems to depend on the year and the area you patrol, which is as should be.

banjo,
Agreed, over time it all evens out. You read some of the patrol reports and man those guys were yo-yo's. Although I tend to pull the plug the moment an aircraft sighting comes down from the watch, I have stayed on the surface and the aircraft have flown by without pestering the boat. |
problem?
I downloaded 1.8 beta. It is supposed to be 66 megabytes. However my download is pretty quick and the files do not add up to close to 66 megabytes. Is something amiss?
|
Your D/L probably got FUBAR'ed.
As airtraffic goes, i have something on the back burner for that. Should work out better then current situation if i ever get the time to finish it. |
Just thinking loud... Why not just 'revive' ducimus instead of have living dead visits. :-?

TMO 1.8 walks on water
First, what are the beta changes? I have not seen any, except the ones that follow. Remember, I am the author of the post that says it doesn't appear that the download is 66 megabytes.
I just reloaded the beta. I am in port at Midway. After taking a shot at the lighthouse search light at the entry to the port for the hell of it, I noticed a sentry had walked off the pier he was patrolling and was begining to cross the harbor channel in mid air. His elevation was slightly higher than the periscope's. He stopped in the middle of the channel, turned and walked back to the pier. My crew went wild and wanted to see some more. In case he tried it again I had manned the anti aircraft gun so I could shoot him out of the sky and have him reassigned to the air force. The sentry heard my crew or saw some of them manning the anti aircraft weapon, so he returned to the pier, marched to the nearest building, stopped, saluated a few officers, and then did an about face and marched through the side of the building adjacent to his position, disappearing in the wall! He reappeared through the wall a few minutes later and did it again! Beta appears to be the right word for the mod. |

http://forum.kickinbak.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1779 That list is not all inclusive, as it doesnt include changes made to the beta since i first uploaded it. Hell, one would figure, an entirely clickable control room would be enough of a noticeable. I guess not. Quote:
At the height of my work on this mod, i was , without exaggeration, starting my day at 7 or 8 AM. Work on TMO until noon. At noon id start getting ready for work. Work for me is from 1PM to 9:30 PM. I'd get home by 10PM, and By 10:30 PM, i was modding again and didnt turn in tell 2AM, sometimes 3AM. Often id be at this schedule for 3 or 4 weeks at a time. Take a few days rest, and then be at it again. Words alone cannot tell you how much effort i, as an individual, have put into this damn game. So, you know what, you get the fruits of all this labor for FREE, costing you nothing more then the effort to D/L it. If you don't like it, You have two choices: You use another mod, or make your own mod that's more to your liking. In either event, if you want to sit there and belittle my effort, you can kindly kiss my ass. I simply have no time, nor patience for this sort of thing anymore. |
@ im goin' down - this statement was induced by this thread but not specifically meant to be directed solely at you but to you and all the other members who post critcisms too.
honestly guys its easy to be a critic but how many members who make requests ever take the time to learn or understand how many long hours go into modding things that "look" simple? so the guy walks off into thin air? yes thats a legitimate thing to point out but it could be done in a better way then the way it was worded. most people wouldnt even understand that if you wanted to find and fix some minor little glitch like this guys walking habbits you could very likely spend dozens of hours doing it and if you are successfull nobody would ever notice or care and would instead complain about how much time its taking for you to release the next mod update. im not saying dont be critical of peoples work or to point out errors because modders need to know these things and like to get feedback (good or bad) when they are found but when you do take the time to mention what you found please take into consideration the amount of effort and work that was put into a project as a whole and not be too quick to make off hand remarks that could be insulting to someone who has devoted endless hours of his time and family life to mod the game for us. |

Heck, you can see that several places in stock. |
wait a minute.
Decimus, to the extent that your comments may directed a me, I take exception. I play TMO1.7. I used to play RFB/RSRDC, then I switched to TMO/RSRDC. It was too hard. Then I went to FOTRS. Too many planes. Then I went to TMO1.7, which I can now handle with Webster's Fewer Planes mod. I am quite happy with the mod. I recently tried the Beta. I could not tell any difference, so I issued a post suggesting the RAR download was defective. That was yesterday or the day before. Next, my computer had a SH1.5 problem, so I reinstalled the game. I had saved TMO1.7, but I downloaded a new copy of the Beta and its four fixes. What I described in port in my post was what I first encountered. I am still in the midst of that mission. I still need to figure out what the changes are, so now I will read the change log you referred to in your post. I haven't seen anything clickable, so now I will look for them.
Also, I quote my recent post dated 09/20/2008 at 0600 hrs which is still on the board in the SH4 forum. Here it is: "We owe the modders As I was coming out of the kitchen, my three ferocious miniture poodle sentry's surrounded the fireplace, first growling and then barking. Soot started shooting out of the base of the chimney, and all of sudden, in full regalia OUT STEPPED THE MAN HIMSELF -- SANTA CLAUS. I looked in my backyard. It is September, a bright blue fall morning with no snow on the ground. Smack in the middle of my yard, in the center of a well manicured grass lawn, was a large sleigh. It was hitched up to a team of reindeer, one with a glowing, shiny red nose at the head of the team. Two of team were off the ground, held down only by the halters that were attached to the other reindeer by way of thick brown leather reins attached to decorated harnesses. Their forelegs were bent -- both were ready to take immediate flight. The remaining reindeer were pawing at the grass and snorting. Six elves had grabbed my son's basketball that he had left on the path, and they were playing a game of 3 on 3 on the adjacent concrete court where they had hung a new net on the basketball rim. They were shouting in high pitched voices and laughing. In shock, I looked at Santa. Without a word handed me an envelope. I started to open it. I glanced up. He was gone! WTF. Where did he go? I went to the window. His sleigh was gone. He was gone. The reindeer were gone. So was his enterouge. All were gone without out a trace, except for the envelope in my hand. It all happened in thirty seconds! I opened the envelope. It said, Go to subsim and incorporate different smoke for mercahants and warships into your career, Captain. Good luck and everyone's is counting on you. I did not know that Christmas happened in September. But is does! Thanks, Captain, for a great "Christmas" present.:salute: " This is for the modders." [end of quote] I am off to see if I can figure out the Beta changes. |
Your gonna find several changes with 1.8. However, many are them are small tweaks, some are major changes. I love the clickable dials. Just for fun when I have contacts and cams off, I can now hit Del, get rid of all the buttons and drive the sub by the dials.
Think he made the 40 more powerful, I just haven't lived to get it yet. Enemy is much meaner....so beware the mod is for those wanting to die. I think Ducimas took offense "Beta the right word for the mod". It's like using the truth that it's a beta to insult it being a beta. Took me 5 tries to get a full DL, just servers, but geesh I hate that. Right now he has a new girlfriend after years with the hun. My guess is he is..er....finding new pleasures. Look forward to it's final release....with TONED DOWN VISUALS........ |

"What's 1.8 do? I don't see squat except this dude walking on water. What a buggy POS." At this point i don't know when ill wrap 1.8 up. I still have to finish the air spawn adjustments, test it, retest the 40MM on aircraft, and if CA wraps up his interior project, do all the dials, and such on it, and redo the interiors to accomidate the interior addition. Im sorely tempted to abandon the project and never do anything more to it. My home PC desktop is festooned with files and shortcuts related to 1.8, and i havent touched them in the last 3 weeks. When i get home from work, i spend my time talking with my girlfriend, and if i still have time after that, i fire up Left4dead and blast some zombies to unwind before i go to bed. |
be a duck
Hey, try to remember that we respect your work. Let the water roll of your back, because you will be better for it when it unmistakeable that an attack is intended. I, however, was misunderstood, as I intended my post to be humorous as I figured things like that are common in a beta, speaking purely from lack of experience in modding.
You might try this. Leave the mod alone until you feel like looking at it. You might be surprised and find you feel like finishing (if you can ever be truly finished.) Anyway, I returned to the mission and took a look around the sub. Here is what I did or did not notice. Conning tower - three clickable buttons in the I never saw before. Maybe they have always been there in TMO. The are dive, crash dive and crew to battlestations. I did not see a depth meter that was clickable. I saw buttons to go to night periscope and fire torpedoes. Other--I did not fid a captain's room or Yeoman's office (how do I get there?), my lights in the main cabin are on the let (port) side only, and my damage crew fills all the slots. I noticed nothing else clickable that was new. I think maybe my beta 7 to 8 is not working well. I will reload the TMO and download the beta again. If something changes, I will post it. |
