Yes of course, you learn something new every day, just never seen any BB escorting before, want more!

In RL would that happen?
I mean, a BB or even a Cruiser in the middle of a convoy?
Only tankers have deeper heel than those ships so a smart Kaleun would easily pick em off.
Plus, this situation limits their maneuverability and speed.

Most definitely and Mel has posted a worthy link to support the fact.

Here's a further example showing HMS Anson (pay particular attention to the bottom of the page):

That's an interesting article jimbuna.
Distant cover obviously means that in this case the battleships were not inside / part of the convoy.
In fact on one occasion distant meant 1000 miles west!!:hmmm:

If you research you will find many examples of heavy units travelling within the confines of the merchant ranks. This action was performed mainly during daylight hours because of the relatively short range of AA weaponry.

During the evening the heavy units were deemed more vulnerable to U-boat attack (the preferred conditions of a Kaleun) and therefore left the close confines of the convoy whilst allowing more leeway in manouvreability.

Further to jim's post and answer, let me just state that GWX is a game and not reality. Due to restrictions imposed on us by the game engine convoys are much smaller and ships are closer than they were in reality. Therefore some level of poor realism is to be expected (for example it would have been impossible for all the merchants to travel so close to the Battleship if the big guns were to be used etc etc)

In my opinion if we take into account all the complications and restrictions the game engine creates I am happy with the final outcome.

I agree entirely.
After years of GWX it still amazes me how much has been built into this game.

Hopefully in SH5 (with or without GWX) these issues are incorporated into the game

Backing up Hr. Jimbuna, another example of a BB inside a convoy, and being damaged by torpedoes is HMS Malaya. She wasn't bright enough to leave the convoy after dark.
All the DDs that were supposed to be escorting the convoy, ended up escorting her, all the way to New York for repairs, where she spent the entire rest of the war.
Two IXBs made a picnic out of that convoy.

Back to the original question:
If everything is in a wild, nonuniform zig zag, IMO, the attack is over.
That's something SH3, not GWX, screwed up badly.
