they change pretty quickly too... I just joined this week and went from Bilge Rat, to Nub (my personal favorite), to Swabbie. I've never seen this method before, but I think it's a really cool way of doing the avatars. :up:

i never paid too much attention to it but they will rotate daily so when you visit you get that one that you keep for the day.

after so many posts or maybe its the time you've been a member, your catagory changes and you stop getting the silly ones.

also as "I'm goin' down" said, if you make a donation to the site of a certain size then they will let you get your own personal avitar but neal is the only one who knows the exact details and requirements for that since he sets the policy.

I'll put it a bit more clearly for you:

- if you get more posts your 'avatar' changes automatically (e.g. you start as a bilge rat but from 6 posts on you are a nub)

- if you want to have a custom avatar you'll have to 'buy' it. contact neal stevens for that.

ah, the days of being a nub for me are long past. well, several days, actually. how time flies on subsim :yeah:

It's a pretty funny way of handling the avatars. It will prevent you however, from immediately identifying the user you're looking at, but that's no biggie.
