to me, this sounds like they took the old engine with new elements. this gives them more time to think about new features an d more time for beta testing, i think...

in my opinion (because its the fastest and the least expensive thing to do) they just dumped sh3 data into sh4 game engine to replace all of the fleetboat stuff and then started the process of working out the kinks and making changes to the game itself.

lets give them the benefit of the doubt that they will be going back over it and "premod" the game to make all the needed improvements they can

i got this reply:

You would make a mistake to think that. Basically, there's nothing that was taken from SH3 (which was launched 4 and a half years ago). Everything has been redesigned and things that may look like SH3 (because of the historic background) have been recreated to meet the standards of 2009.

But at least there keeping the file structure.

Reece, what is not to like about SH4 (ok, no list please :D)? I love SH4. Not just for the PTO but the graphics are excellent. After all the modding the game is great to play. It runs flawlessly on my Vista machine. Anyway, from what I gather a lot of SH4 will be found in SH5.

Not to mention the vastly superior crew management and overall stability, ease of adding new ships without the horrific loading times, better time compression and the way they changed the radio screen to a pop-up wherever you are. There are things I think could have been done better, and some I think they messed up big-time, but overall it's a great improvement.

Well I had just installed for the fifth time with OM + OMEGA, also tried OM + RSRD, and still has many bugs, I could do some fixes for some and work around for others but the biggest thing is twice the computer reset itself in each version listed above, the second time I ended up with HDD Index errors, so bad that I had to re-ghost my machine, in doing so I lost some of my files, and I only got to play the nav training mission. :damn: So you must understand the frustration, my system is fairly new::hmmm:
AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition
Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Motherboard
Creative X-fi Xtreme sound
HIS IceQ4 Turbo ATI HD 4850 512mb video card
4mb Kingston ram
Win XP Pro
If I had to try again it would mean a total install again!!:dead:

Could always be bad parts too. When I built my parents computer a few years back I got a bad board and CPU right outta the box.

Well I can run games like Crysis, Far Cry 2, Trainz 2006, SOF3, Turok, BlackSite, Ship sim 2008, etc, with no problems, though some not recently, maybe one of my ram sticks has died, I did have all the settings in the game set to max, maybe someone with OM can try the nav training school, both reboots happened here, got to about way point 6 the second time.:hmmm:

Don't worry mate. SH4 gives me soft reboots too. And it seems to be the only game that does it too. I don't know why.

I vaguely remember having trouble with the training school after installing mods. So i never did the training after that . I just went straight to the campaign .

Even the career crashes. Usually mid patrol.:wah:

Yeh I wouldn't mind if it just CTD but rebooting is a no no on my machine, I have problem with the reset line, not sure if it is motherboard or power supply, but when I start my machine I have to hold the reset button down when or it just hangs and often causes HDD errors, once it boots all is ok (holding reset down for a second always works, 100%), been like this for several months, so a game rebooting sucks big time!!!:damn:

SH3 is a better Sim than SH4

:down:After all the superficials are dropped; SH4 is an inferior quality Sim to SH3! The graphics are nice? No, the water is verging on ludicrous – ballooning tissue paper flapping around the screen. The music is – just – well I turn it off. The main gripe I have is that the torpedo “spills” out of the tubes – and does not eject with a certain – accuracy that I see in SH3.

I do find the damage on the ships great; but they’re not that accurate. The only other thing I like is the Milton Poem at the start…nice touch. SH3 is like XP, and SH4 is like Vista….I hope SH5 is like Win7.

THE_MASK 10-08-09 04:59 PM

Actually , i think they said we will recognise the file structure from sh3/4 . But its a new game .

JU_88 10-08-09 05:02 PM

SH5 is built on SH4 and so what?
Was SH4 a crap game? with a crap engine? No it was very good - just rushed...
Im glad SHV its built on SH4, otherwise building the new engine would take up so much time, there would be no time for all the other fancy things we keep begging them for.
The Devs were never gonna be given the to time and budget to build a new game engine anyway. And why the hell would they want to when (with a few improvements) the current one is perfectly good.

Same engine - but 2 completey different games.
Judge SHV on its own merrit and stop all this worrying, since 'worrying' isnt going to change anything anyway.

Im sick of seeing the word 'Worrying' on this forum almost as much as im sick of seeing the word 'Soup'
Neal should censor both of them.

Didn't they say it was a completely new engine with completely new code?

The soup is worrying me now .
