Why not?
It's already been done with U-boat missions.

Kromus 08-28-09 08:37 AM

Because they never mentioned about making allied side, only U-boats in atlantic. If they would, it`d be the first thing to metion in "features" don`t you think? (But still they can surprise us ofcourse)
I`m pretty sure they`ll do something in expansion pack though.

Edit: And making it this way brings them more money.

Even if it sounds like both allied and axis side cold be implemented but I don`t think so.

Maybe, though what would be involved to make Allied & Axis ATO campaign in the SHV?

IMHO it would most be Art related, e.g detailed 3d models Allied submarines.
Some US Fleetboats like the S-1 & Gato could be ported from Sh4 and it wouldnt be too hard to build a few British Subs. though im not sure about the interiors as I dont belive there are many (if any) Royal navy WW2 era SUBs in existance today, AFAIK they all got recycled into back into 'pots and pans' the 60's.

Eveything else, like NPC units and campaign file etc is already in place for the Uboat campaign..
Would just need abit more Axis traffic (around Biscay, North Sea/ Norway and of course the MED)

Wouldnt hold my breath, but it certainly not an impossible scenario :hmmm:

I think Ive figured it out.

Perhaps the author of that article had some reservations about playing as a German 'Nazi'. Hence the quip "no matter which 'side'".

They haven't mentioned this and tons of other features we all are eager to hear about. This is how they hype a game. They won't give us everything yet. And since this was introduced with the U-boat addon they might not consider this as big news. What we think is another case.

Or that just means that there will be an MP gamestyle as in SH4, one plays the uboat, one plays allied surface ship.

They only reference SH4 here, no mention of SH3. So my take on it is this. In SH4 you played the Americans, with SH5 you will be playing the Germans. To me they came across like playing the Americans was a bad thing, a problem that needed a remedy. But hey I could be wrong, maybe we'll get those Brit boats after all!

They missed a big opportunity to have Japanese subs in SH IV. Wasn't some mod group working on that-haven't seen anything in the relevant mod forum about it in some time tho.

ETR3(SS) 08-28-09 09:41 AM

Yes there is a Japanese campaign in the works I believe. Seems the SH4 forums have died out a little with the tiny bit of news of SH5 coming out.

Exactly. There is no evidence whatsoever that we can play the Allies in SH V. The reviewer was simply comparing SH IV to V is all.

This was my interpretation as well.

Regardless of the side you play for, the game is easy to get into.
Why would they have said that then?

##Wow what the hell is up with my user pic?
