Yep - that is what I was attemping to do with Das Boot officer faces I have and that is the correct folder too (Data/ofaces) and the extension is .tga Thanks matey.

The link is dead, but someone must have these and perhaps could upload them to subsim; the six sets of faces are in the download section; but there is a set with the Das Boot faces. However, I don't have it.
