That must have been one hell of a wave makeing it go out like that on a flat day.:o
and keeping it out for a 1 min... I myself blame it on the tide changeing, cause the tide was sarting to come back in...:yep: (tide was completly out.) |
Can you link to a map of where you where?
|
Err... kind of hard... near the chesapeak bay inlet... (mouth of the chesapeake bay...)
Im a google maps noob. |
Ahh! yes, that looks like a great spot for wide tidal boars(sp?). That must be it.
ed: Tidal bores ed2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_bore ed3: Apparently Chesapeake Bay is also prone to weather related bores. That might be another cause if the weather was changing rapidly. |
yep. at first I thought about a tideal wave... cause of how the water went out... then it started to come in realy quick, but no wave.:rotfl:
or maby one of the monsters in my sig. But seeing the water go down like that so quick was realy cool... ive never seen water drop 2 1/2 feet so fast, lol. |
I think it was a Hollywood CG graphic for the next Posiden Adventure. :yep:

Funny, by that description, I instantly thought of the effect of a tsunami, then read the link by Letum about the tidal bore. Apparently a similar effect, but tricked by different reasons. I wasn't aware though that the tidal bore could be as fast as a tsunami.
Hm... learned something today... :DL |
yea... I also was amaised by it... maby it will happen tomorrow again when i venture to the beach...:DL
|
I remember reading when the tsunami hit Indonesia in 2005(?) that before it hit, the water receded quite a ways. A lot of people were caught out where the water was when the tsunami came in.

Yea the tide changes in that part of the country are amazing.
I remember visiting eastport. Went to lunch. At that time the tops of the sailboat masts were more or less even with the top of the dock. They had long ladders you could climb down to the boat. After lunch 2 or so hours we came out and Wow ! the decks of the boats were now almost even with the docks. The water level had risen nearly 15 feet in two hours :o Theres also some cool whirlpools around there. Big enought to 'swallow' a telephone pole. http://www.easternmaineimages.com/whirlpool.htm Quote:
