The CART/IRL Split was very different. In that split the top teams/drivers went to CART, but the single biggest asset (the Indy 500) went to the IRL.

In this case, the top teams, the top drivers, and the single biggest asset (Ferrari) are all going to FOTA. If Ferrari stuck with the FIA then it would be CART/IRL all over again, but that won't happen. Right now I get the impression that Ferrari would rather not race than be in Mosley's F1.
