This is a common practice in Poland - when you can screw a consumer, do it. Some people would notice, complain and that's ok, the company doesn't loose (let's face it - when you choose an offer, sign the deal etc. you don't want to do it again anywhere soon). But some people won't notice they are being screwed or the amount of money would be too small for them to worry.

And that's precisly when the company cashes-in.

It happened to me lately when I signed a deal with ISP. They were double-billing me, even after my complaint. This is for 100% done on purpose.

This reminds me of a insurance companies, nr 1 rule there is - always reject first claim. Then reject another. Only pay when a client is extremely devoted to getting his money.

And to think that some insurances are forced by the law...

Well, that's my two cents. Cheers.

courtesy of your friendly neighborhood insurance company! we're here to screw you!

I refuse to believe that this is just plain, uncommon stupidity. Note how the woman stopped for a second when faced with a question whether she recognises the difference between 0.002$ and 0.002c. I think she realised her company made an error in adverisement / offer / signed deals and she opted to cover that mistake.

Despite that, this is just sad.

I mean... what's the point of public education if grown-ups cannot do a task average 7yo should be capable of?

Glad to hear you got that sorted out. But I'd never... ever... (anymore  ) would use my cellphone to download stuf from the net. I still remember the bills I had around '00/'01 after downloading just a few MB per month @ 14k4 baud. (yes, pretty old cellphone modem) Not as bad as yours. Just a few hundred dutch guilders at the time. (2.20371 guilders became a euro) But on my student allowance that was painfull.

What got me was that their math was't even right.
Even if I did used their access and paid full price my bill should have "only" been $1112.50 plus my $80 regular charge.

Idiots, like I wouldn't notice the change or something.

So you didn't need to use the Luger finally, uh? Glad you solved it :D

A lot of these customer service reps rely too much on what they see on your account without bothering to check whether somebody else entered the data correctly. Several years ago my landlord double billed me for rent one month. Each month I pay my rent by pre-authorized payment. When I called to tell them that there had been a mistake I got this really rude woman (b*tch ) telling me that they hadn't made an error. I demanded to speak to her supervisor & got through to him. He agreed that there had been a mistake but was very reluctant to refund my over-payment (as far as they were concerned it was their money now). He wanted to apply the over-payment to my next month's rent (ie. I wouldn't have to pay next month's rent). I said that this wasn't a good solution for me as I would be short of cash for the month. After some more arguing he finally agreed to refund my money back into my bank account. It still took me several phone calls & 2 weeks to get my refund & I never got a satisfactory answer from my bank as to why they allowed the landlord to deduct the extra funds out of my account. Ever since then I check my bank balance at the 1st banking day of each month...
