And now some of you probably think I just come here to complain.Let me just say,I would rather not be complaining and instead playing,I can tell you that. The last thing I want is to load my game after many hours of playing only to find its gone! And I will also admit to not fully reading the GWX manual, instead reading select topics as and when I feel I need to,such as in this case. Now if you are all honest,I bet loads of you are guilty of this.

At least I know what to do about it now,so,that effectively clears this issue up now.

Its also becoming a bit tedious and annoying asking stuff lately, trying to anticipate (largely through fear of ridicule,or embarrassment on my part) what some of the reactions to my questions are, making me think twice about posting it :nope:

...Oh well.I may have a break from posting for a while. It can get frustrating sometimes, trying to explain yourself via text all the time

Just one or two things, thats all. Before I changed to GWX3 I cant recall SH3 ever crashing,or me having any cause for concern about anything.
Talking of CTDs,I have only had 2,and that was when leaving the Kiel canal. That and a strange faint black vertical line down the centre of the screen, which seems to have gone now...and the missing save.
Other than that,I am still enjoying it,much more advanced than before.

Well, the difference between stock game and GWX is much like playing basketball alone on the street and playing at the Staples Center on the NBA Finals. :D

Cant say i'm familiar with them sports or the Staples Center (re),but I know what you mean ;)

Thanks.

I think if you look back through enough of my past posts you will find 'the x factor' as I like to call it was one of my earlier fixes for a commonly encountered anomaly....hence its inclusion in the documentation.

BTW....it doesn't have to be an 'x', any other defining number or letter will suffice.

Paul Riley 05-29-09 12:07 PM

Evening jim,

Just regarding the 'x' (sorry I dont have time to check the documentation JUST yet,I want to get straight on my patrol, almost back home) ,I tried removing the 'x' but then the save would disappear again.Does the game allow the removal of the added character before next patrol,as with mods? And finally, does the game even allow underscores ( _ ) at the end, instead of an 'x'?,or even a full stop?.

Really is the strangest thing I have experienced in a game, you know?.

Sorry if this has been discussed before,I wont have any reason to bring this up again

Thanks for the help.

It can be challenging, posting here at SUBSIM, but realizing this is half the battle. Also, being clear in your posts and perhaps doing a bit of research before posting something new can help as well. Sometimes answers to members questions here can be found in older threads here.

Bottom line, don't lose any sleep over it this, it's an online forum and as I have said before you live and learn, with the learning part being key.

I had the manual printed and put in a 3 ring binder dirt cheap at Kinko's.

I added colored tabs to separate sections for ease of finding things.

If all else fails I pm Jimbuna and be a pain in the arse to him. :har:

Good to know RDP,thanks.

So long as people dont get p###ed and angry,I mean, there is mountains of info and advice in here, and its so easy to miss exactly what it is you are after.Just as in the real world, you can actually miss things by looking TOO hard.

I'm just glad I got my game save back :woot:

That is a great idea FW,problem is I ran out of printer ink :nope:
Must have took hours to print mind you, wow.
I did the same with Wazoo's plotting guide ages ago,and still have it in a ring binder.

People do get pissed off and angry here, but don't let it bother you. If you are being fair and following the rules than that is all you can do in the end.

Also the folks who do get pissed off and upset here, and don't get their act together so to speak ( as per forum rules ), usually end up here:

Don't use your own printer Paul. :nope: Call around to Print shops.

It's alot cheaper. :yep:

At Kinko's here in USA it was 2 cents a page both sides.

Thanks for the help.

Normally I would play the patrol acessed via the 'x factor', complete the patrol then dock and save.

Come out of game and access the save title in C\MyDocs.

Delete the 'x' and load the save (now without the x).

You can always add it again if you experience a recurrence of the situation.

I have only used letters and numbers in my tests.

NEVER DELETE THE 'PLAYER' DEFAULT NAME
