you might, but there's no use for if IIRC.
I just fill up all the important compartments and put 5crew-men into the maintenance+repair. that usually is enough when adding an officer there to.

Finished my first patrol. 8200 tons; 3 ships sank.

nice job!

are you playing on GWX though? if so, maybe the war hasnt even started yet

Only mod at the moment is SH3Commander. I have downloaded GWX, but have not installed it. I want to get a feel for the stock game first.

Also, I'm only on 65% realism. I'm still letting my officers aim the fish for me. I just want to work on intercepts and fuel management for a while.

I'd bet that you will get bored with stock pretty quick and be moving on to one of the super mods pretty quick. That seems to be the common evolution of a SH3/4 player.

Welcome aboard!:salute:
You'll find plenty of friendly help on these forums so don't be afraid to ask questions.

nothing wrong with this approach!

to correctly track an enemy's path by sight or by hydrophone is the first and main achievement, IMO

I agree, being able to track and predict a ship's future course and at specific times is the best skill to develop first, attacking and evasion can come later :yep:

Yeah. I have a printout of The Hunt and I'm working through that at the moment.

Can I get a stopwatch on the map screen? I have to go to the periscope and sight the contact, then start the watch, then to the map to mark the position, then back to the periscope to lower it and watch the stopwatch.

Then, a 3:15 wait, and repeat the above.

It would be nice if I could see the stopwatch on the map screen...

you can drag the wooden stop-watch down to the navmap. it corresponds with the one of the periscope-view.

My second patrol was kinda dumb. I was ordered to go way up North; off the coast of Norway.

I headed up, did my 24 hours, the headed for better waters.

On my way down, I got a report; intercepted a cargo vessel, and sank him. The first torp had him listing, but he didn't go down. I fired another but the second missed. I guess between the time I fired, the ship finally stopped moving. Anyway, I didn't want to waste a third, so I waited and he finally sank.

I headed back for England with three torps left. I ran across a nice C2 cargo ship. I fired two torps into her from 800M. She stopped and started listing. After 2 hours, she still did not sink. I finally unloaded my third torp and she promptly sank.

I really hate having to use 5 torps for two ships. But at least I haven't fired a dud yet. Here's knocking on wood...

Get GWX

I'd suggest you get GWX. With it you get more detail plus you get no renown for getting to your assigned station. Its not really worth all the trouble getting to the staions and waiting 24 hours with nothing happening and then abandoning the station to head to where the action is.

I know how ya feel. When I still played stock I edited my torpedoes to have a much more powerful warhead in the hopes that ships would sink faster. What happened there was that destroyers often went sailing hundreds of meters through the air after I hit them, while the larger cargo vessels still required two or more torpedoes before finally sinking. GWX seems to have eliminated that frustration - the ships usually don't sink right away but most merchant vessels and escorts I attack now only require one good torpedo shot.

Viva Grey Wolves :sunny:

I still require 2 toprs to sink most ships :wah:

Today I hit a small frieghter with one torp and surfaced to hit it with my flak gun, wanted to save my deck gun ammo for a real target. As I surfaced I was shot at! Though it was the ship, nope air craft off the port bow!

DIVE DIVE DIVE :timeout:

Waited foir the plane to go, resurfaced and was using the deck gun when that bloody plane came back!

Got the kill and some work for my damage control team :haha:

I'm having a SHIII relapse :)

I'm downloading GWX currently - what will SH3commander do ontop od GWX? Why might I want to install it too?

Many thanks
