Actually, here it was the other way around! Oinc Oinc Oinc...

I heard that the vaccine of last year of the flu, gives partial or better, makes the imune system of the person more resistent becuase the vaccine has also the H1N1, since this new type is a mutation of this! Do no know if it's true!

Since that may very well prevent infection, why not?

Think I read somewhere that while 50 000 000 people died of the spanish flu, 97% or so of everyone that caught the flu survived. Anyone can verify?

Wikipedia says that an estimated 1 billion people caught the Spanish flu, so that number looks about right. There's a huge spread in the numbers regarding the Spanish flu.

The Spanish flu was unusual in that it was more deadly in younger and healthier patients. There are some signs that the same is true for the current swine flu.

Yet the only death so far in the US was some poor 2 year old mexican kid whom came to the US for treatment.

Cmon people.

There's a world beyond our borders. In Mexico most of the deaths have been in healthy young adults.

Now why would people in Mexico be more pre-disposed to mortality?

Anyhow I keep hearing this but have yet to see anything about it in the media.

Reuters has just announced that the WHO has just gone to phase five according to the EC.

Quote:

Phase 5 is characterized by human-to-human spread of the virus into at least two countries in one WHO region. While most countries will not be affected at this stage, the declaration of Phase 5 is a strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.

This is not good ... H1N1 just went from three to four yesterday.

It only goes up to 6

They are poorer, they put off medical attention longer, the only people being tested in Mexico are the ones already in the hospital and by that time it is almost too late.

You only have 48 hours to start treating it to have a better survival rate.

There is no cure

Online pharmacies have experienced a significant surge in demand for Tamiflu, the leading anti-flu drug.

The sample size in Mexico is a lot bigger for this virus. So far the sample size for fatalities in the US is 1.

Here's the media on healthy people being more vulnerable: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/25/wo.../25mexico.html

"Most of Mexico’s dead were young, healthy adults, and none were over 60 or under 3 years old, the World Health Organization said. That alarms health officials because seasonal flus cause most of their deaths among infants and bedridden elderly people, but pandemic flus — like the 1918 Spanish flu, and the 1957 and 1968 pandemics — often strike young, healthy people the hardest."

The move suspends the baseball season and eliminates the regional track championships

Could well be elevated to 6 (pandemic level) before the weekend at this rate :hmmm:
