Never trust SH3 Commander... It's plotting to take over your U-boat!

I think the worst I ever heard of was the story of Rolf Mutzelburg, CO of u-203. He died while on patrol in a swimming accident!:nope: While his men were enjoying a swimming break he dove off the top rail of the conning tower just as the boat rolled and hit his head on the saddle tank. He died a short time later.

Can you imagine SHCommander interupting your patrol to tell you your career is over due to a freak accident?:wah:

And that, boys and girls, is why you always wear proper head protection. :nope:

Or how about staying on the surface to fight that attacking plane, only to have it tell you that YOU were killed, and your 1WO buried you at sea and then went on to a great patrol?

A Very Super Market 02-14-09 04:11 PM

Hell, losing your entire sub because the food went bad?

Hi!

One way to resolve the problem would be to award a player renown for "dismissing" experienced crewmen. So many renown points for releasing an oberleutnant, so many for a leutnant, etc., as well as earning renown points for the medals earned by those departing personnel.

This would reflect your increased renown throughout the Ubootwaffe for mentoring such outstanding officers and men as they moved on to other boats and commands of their own.

You could do this with a text editor to modify save game files, or I suppose someone might ask JScones if he would impement something like this in a future version of SH3 Commander. Hopefully, someone might talk him into allowing players to specify the number of renown points a player would gain for the different ranks and award levels departing the boat as SH3 Commander imitates Kriegsmarine crew rotations.

My $0.02!

Pablo

I wonder how it would handle a case like that of Peter Zschech. Had a mental breakdown during a depth charge attack & shot himself!:wah: Details can be found here: http://uboat.net/men/commanders/1409.html.

Yeah...it's one thing to threaten a panicked Johann back to his post with a pistol. It's even freakier when Johann is the guy with the pistol. :dead:

my Navigator moves to CE

Weapons moves to Navigator, Watch Officer Moves to Weapons and a new officer is brought aboard.

about "releasing your officers not having an effect" it would be nice to at least see their names show up on the roster with some sort of tonnage totals aside their names

I just reread this and felt that I had to comment. Just for realism's sake. The Kriegsmarine was much like the Royal Navy in that the Engineers were a separate division, and only took over command if there were no other officers left, unlike the US Navy in which every officer had to learn every job.

I only replace my CE with another 'Repair' or 'Machinist' qualified officer, and never let him do any of the other jobs, and never have anyone cross-trained to do that job.

Silly, I know, but that's the way I like to have my 'realism'.
