Im an arse tbh. And to quote Pat Condell on this issue "I don't respect your beliefs and I do not care if you are offended. Cheers!".
In most cases I can respect others beliefs, but when they venture too far from reality I can't help but laugh.

I am inclined to agree, especially so when they agressively try to force them on me and are pissed when I tell them to sodd off.

But nobody is forcing anything on anyone here. As it looks right now, people are out for some cheap laughs and ridicule of a fellow board member.. regardless how the OP was meant. ;)

Im not, i really am disturbed and troubled by this, as its not the first time.
I think consulting a doctor would be wise, i he/she clears him il leave him alone.

Many of your posts including prophecy have a certian anti-left, anti-Clinton, and anti-Obama tone to them. Must just be a coincidental trend

Everyone knows God is an American. And a Republican....

I' m sorry. I should had been more clear.. I meant 'some people'.
Anyways.. I agree with what you said. If it's a medical condition help is needed.

Joan of Arc was ridiculed as being nuts, am i right? because she claimed to hear voices from her god. and yet, she was a fearsome military leader.

Anotehr example, i think ol' GW said he thought he heard voices telling him what to do.

My point it, and was possibly poorly conveyed, that why are we judging a bloke and pokng fun at him, because of what he believes. Take people on their whole, not just one part.

As for the responses of 'its the 21st century' etc, we still don't know everything there is to know, a long way from it.

Enigma 01-28-09 06:31 PM

My initial comments were in jest, as I thought the OP was in jest. If not, that would be truly troubling....:-?

Because Joan of Arc WAS a fearsome military leader, even if she may have worn a tin hat. This is the Subsim General Topics forum where people shoot the breeze. And if I was hanging out somewhere and a guy came up to me to tell me of his prophecies, I wouldn't be very nice about it either and would probably judge him as not quite right. People are judged and poked fun at daily here for a good number of beliefs (political and otherwise).

That's the thing. He's posted stuff like this before, and I don't believe it's in jest at all.

And bullies shake down the smaller kids in school for their lunch money, but that doesn't make it right:nope:

It's inhuman NOT to form judgments and express opinions. That's what happens on this forum. Open ridicule is bad, I agree. But politely expressing one's views/concerns is not equivalent to bullies stealing lunch money, sorry.

Polite expression or open ridicule, you decide:

And who is to define what a "funky thing" is? What's funky to me is your idea of reality and vice versa. There have been a couple possible explanations for the belief (if indeed it is one) and I'm sure there are several more explanations that don't involve openly ridiculing a person.

People may not choose to be the small child in school, but some people haven't had much choice in what they believe. We have no idea of the age or the background of the person, yet y'all make fun of the person rather than ignoring what you believe to be a crazy statement. That's what my objection is to, and I attempted to politely express it, as opposed to the above examples.

Can I ask you all a question? When you see a person on the corner with the proverbial "The End is Near" sign hanging off his or her shoulders, do you point and laugh or just walk by?

The Lord said it wasn't for me to know and then He added,

"That I would very happy"

Side note I am not pro or anti-Obama personally just sober and leary of what I see happening.

I would not be happy if this was the end of Obama physically ...

I'm thinking this is more of a polictcal problem that has yet to come to light.

Maybe you should warn the Secret Service, even if you dont think its a physical threat?
God works in mysterious ways.
Didnt you warn about the hurricane?
How is this different?

Im not a doctor, but i would say that as you cant wish harm on Obama due to your beliefs, its "Gods will" that will take care of him.

In need for psychiatric help, anyone? Hearing voices is understood to be a primary symptom for schizophrenia.

Geetrude, do yourself at least one of two favours: check your condition with a psychiatrist, and if you don't do that, at least keep the transcripts of your internal dialogues for yourself. Else you not only suffer the risk and consequence of broken mental health, but also earn the mockery.

I laugh out loud and keep walking. The same goes for "Repent sinners" signs etc.

Anyway, politely ignoring religious crazytalk is something I can't do, it just goes agains who I am, and as I allready said in this thread, I'm an arse.

Letum 01-28-09 07:11 PM

The Lord speaks to me too, but he mostly speaks to me about pottery and not politics.
It's very boring, but you can't really tell him to go away.

I don't even like pots.
Why me Lord?
