I take what I'm given, and I run multiple careers, so I've driven everything at one time or another. Still, nothing is quite as ducky as a Type II.

My first love! Nothing like learning to evade destroyers in a brand new Einbaum. :smug:

I voted for the XXI only because its SOOO much fun.

But if I could have another vote it would be the IX here.... I LOVE having TWO torpedos in the stern. I have sunk many a Large Merchant with my stern torps (can Type VII users say that... especially when using GWX) and when the chips were down and the DD's would go away, I have sunk my far share of escorts with an aft fan shot...allowing me to slip away!

I love the VIIC but I have to admit I used a IXB for the first time many months back and, man, that's one sweet ship.

You know about ahead slow dontcha? But the real trick is to lose weight to make it even more efficient.

Start the patrol by expending all your torpedoes, it will free you several tonnes, and allow you to perhaps weeks of extra patrol time off the US coast.

Then, line up the torpedomen, and shoot them. There is no need for that dead weight.

Since without torpedoes, you won't be attacking anything, you should immediately remove the periscopes. Remove hydrophones and other unneccesary equipment. Keep a deck gun handy in case a roving destroyer spots you.

Make sure your crew are well drilled in the act of rushing up to the bridge. Make sure anyone who can get down from there speedily is put in engine duty. We do not want them having prospects of retreating. The slower men will be convinved that they will not make it down in time, and be compelled to fight.

Make sure that the kitchen is converted to an extra gas tank, and instead feed the men with caught fish and fermented diesel oil. Do not under any circumstances feed your sailors battery acid.

Remove all clothing after you get to open sea, the men do not need to be humiliated (or glorified, depending on their point of view) in view of friends and prospective baby-makers. Homosexual feelings will not occur due to them being to tired to accumulate "desire"

That should let you get more bang from your VIIb, good hunting!
