We took the SS and AP shells out for GWX....it is debatable yet not conclusive if they were actually carried by U-boats. |
First of all, forgive my rusty, mouldy english :O:
Well, took me bout an hour to check some info in not-so-unknown sources as www.uboatarchive.net from where I will show extracts of interrogatories carried on surviving U-boat crews. U-175 http://www.imagengratis.org/images/interrogat.jpg U-199 http://www.imagengratis.org/images/intu199.jpg U-701 http://www.imagengratis.org/images/intu701ons.jpg and on diverse places as the book on Luth "U-boat Ace" by Jordan Vause, http://www.imagengratis.org/images/uboataceby.jpg www.uboat.net on Robert L Holt sunk by U-69 http://www.imagengratis.org/images/robertlhol.jpg adn definitely the Kriegstagebuch from U-625 on sinking the damaged SS Empire Sky http://www.imagengratis.org/images/kriegstage.jpg Well, I added a match and brought more fuel to the question, perhaps. But I think it would be quite fair reconsider the statement "U-boat never carried AP or SS" that i read in quite a number of posts. And if so, at least i would leave the gap for a future add of incendiary (as AA maybe was almost useless in 105, maybe) ?? Besides i've seen about 3 up to 5 types of ammo for the smaller guns, which i'll not mention here now, from same and other sources. Cheers all out there, Happy hunting |
Well researched.....but as I said earlier it is debatable and no doubt that debate will continue. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...s/thumbsup.gif

I lean toward the idea that u-boats likely did carry at least a few incendiary rounds for the purposes of setting ships ablaze, especially tankers.
AP rounds are something I'd hold suspect, since their primary use would be against armor and I've never heard of a u-boat winning a gun battle with a warship. Regardless of what sort of loadout, I enjoy your mod, jimbuna. Graf like more boom-boom! :D |

Yeah, I forgot the use of incendiary by Kretschmer on his own account
against which ship i cannot remember now (i'm too old :yep:) Agreed Graf, on ablaze ships, and most of the accounts i`ve collected on it, the results were rather uncertain, but mostly were against some general cargo ships. Hilfskreuzer used it with tankers geting good results AP seems to me a little bit out of place too, and also those almost useless AA (to me, despite they were used) but perhaps not the SAP? Anyway, the HE came with nose fuze and base fuze, so the latter would fill the gap for non-armored ships, exploding somewhat further inside the hull? Well, anyhow, I am grateful for the mod (and other work of yours) works wonderfully and still a realism feature too  |
SINK EM ALL!! http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

On her last patrol the U-172, a IXc, carried some 90-odd rounds of 105mm and 80,000 rounds of 20mm ammunition.
I'm in the process of finishing a few FlaK related mods that will address some shortcomings of the AAA aspect of SH3/GWX. There will be multiple ammunition configurations available depending on class of boat and gun configurations. |
Well done Jim:salute:
Downloaded. Thank You:up: AMMO AMMO everywhere;) |
