Load Failed

oh well.. what can I expect from a game filled with bugs and crashes.

I should be happy I can complete a whole mission without the CO2 bug messing me up (I hope).

McHub, you are trying to load a game saved with one (not working) configuration into another configuration. The only way that's going to work is in port. This is not a bug. It's your fault.

You know I really hate it when someone calls bug rather than figure out what they're doing wrong. Probably just a personal problem.:rotfl:

I just tried to save a new game after a fresh restart. I restarted the game, tried to load it and it gave me an error that it could not load the saved game.

Guess I'm lucky :hmm:

No one has asked this, so I will.

What version of the game are you running?

Stock sh4 with no patches would not load saved games. A very irresponsible act of the devs IMO, just about as bad as not implementing a save game feature at all (ala shells of fury, you know, that really promising game...with a really crappy external camera feature so you could not get a good look at the nicely detailed ships)

Anyhow, I noticed this problem going away after doing a fresh install and patching up to at least version 3.

Version 5 is the curent version, when mixed with the mods like OM, RFB, and RSRD, the game operates very well. Saved games and all.

Good luck.

It's version 1.5. Silent Hunter 4 "Gold Edition" with the U-Boat as well. Bought it fresh and new out of the gaming store in the mall 1 month ago.

I haven't installed those major mods because of their size. Do you think they might help?

*** Edit ***
Ick! I just started to download RFB.. I have 1 day and 2 hours to go. That's not possible over here with generator switch offs with power and the routers and internet providers rebooting every day (at least). Grr.
Maybe I can have my wife back home download it and burn it to a.. oh crud.. the DVD burner on the home computer doesn't work.

Grrr!

Hi McH..

This game is more stable than most may have you beleive. I run this game on two computers, both with Vista. I save very often and do not have any problems whatsoever. You may need to research what mods you are using for compatibility sake, and be sure to only install them while in port. I tend to think you should unistall SH4 completely and delete the old folder before reinstalling. There is a sticky thread to tell you the best, most thorough way to uninstall. I'm sure this isn't what you'd like to hear, but at this point, it's probably best. Forget your old saves, start a fresh career. :arrgh!:

Knowing you are serving our country in Bagdad for us, I'm sure if you figure out what big mods you prefer, someone here would be happy to burn and mail a disk to you with anything you request. You'd be amazed how helpful folks here are. Post the info.

Thank you Soundman, you are very kind.

I'd followed the instructions in the sticky thread once before about complete removal. Even got a special program off the internet that was suggested to make SURE all signed of SH4 was removed from my system. I kept no mods and also no saved games and then reinstalled.

Maybe it's an issue with the mods I use. I'll remove all mods and see if that fixes anything.

Thank you Sir.

McHub532 12-21-08 11:39 AM

Just removing all mods didn't work.

The reason I discovered this forum in the first place was because the game was not loading saved games and I was looking for a fix with google.com.

So the issue didn't start because of mods.

Still... I'm going to pull everything off the laptop (SH4) and do a complete uninstall (to include all saved games and career information) and start from the very very very beginning again.

The last time here was the only time I ever tried to save the old saved games. All the other times were wiping out from the very beginning and starting fresh again.f

It never worked (fixed the bugs) before.. but who know. Enough people are mad at me for saying their are bugs that maybe I'm the only person having these issues. The many others are probably the only people too.

Regardless... I'll do a complete wipe again right now and start from the beginning again.

Warning: When I get to an even dozen reloads. I think I will move on to a new game. :)

McHub532 12-21-08 12:35 PM

I just did a complete uninstall (all old saved games also deleted).. started a December 7th very beginning career with a stock boring no mod game.... saved out at sea as suggested.

IT WORKED!!

Now I'm going to add 1 mod... try again.. add 1 more mod.. try again.. and see if it was a mod issue or what.

Soundman 12-21-08 12:47 PM

Hang in there Bud, you really will love this game, don't give up !

Alright!! Hopefully you can figure out which mod it is or maybe it was just a bad install or something. Hopefully you will be able to use your favorite mods. :yep:

McHub532 12-21-08 05:15 PM

Spectacular !

I've loaded in like 18 mods and no problems at all.

I can save...
I push the CO2 button to rise and purge if it comes on instead of the Surface button key (S).

Weee!

McHub,

If you can set up your rig with 2 hard drives it's what I learned along time ago. Load the os on the main drive, and all the drivers and required junk, and on the second hard drive, I load all the stuff that I use on a regular basis. For instance, I have Drive C, contains all the Windows stuff and drivers for the hardware blah blah blah required crap. Drive D, has a folder for games, and folders for art ptrograms. The only reference to the games on C drive is the documents folder where the savegame and settings info defaults to. Both drives are setup with virtual memory so the game can access either one or both if it needs it, but since both have 100 gigs of dedicated virtual memory, I have yet to see both of them utilized completely. Hope this helps.
