Just some little 'ditties' the Bush Adminstration pushes through as they move out. Most adminstrations do the same kind of 'scorched earth' thing at the end of their terms.

Well that's sort of like saying:

"Sadly, being born only delays the inevitable result.... dying."

I think whether we eventually run dry or not it makes sense to use the resources we have.

You forgot to include the fact that this won't happen in our lifetime. By then, we will be driving around with mini fusion powerplants in our cars.

Why not? The US has oil reserves to last it a couple hundred years easy. Probably longer.

Fusion containment was also solved about a month ago where the figured out how to use radio waves to keep the particles from smashing into the chamber walls and extinguishing itself.

The western mountains have an estimated 800 billion barrels of oilshale that isn't even being tapped yet. How long would that last? As long as time isn't squandered while looking for new and more efficient modes of propulsion.

If they don't actually start drilling before this summer when the price of gas goes back up to $4 bucks a gallon will you feel better about it?

I certainly hope you are right but i'm afraid that higher prices will return as the economy rebounds.
