Your OS might be a problem as well. Win2000 I don't think supports the game.
Not true, there was another thread here about it recently.

It's not that it's a bad OS, but what are, to the average user, the benefits of running Vista compared to XP? What can you do in Vista that you couldn't already? Even if you can think of something, is it worth the high cost to "upgrade" and the increase in resources it takes up?

Now imagine you have your own business. You'lld have to spend money to buy copies of it, and then spend more money to train your workers to use it. You get very little in return, certainly not enough to justify the costs.

Now if it doubled your peoples efficiency, it would pay itself back. But I just don't see that happening. :hmm:

Nvidia have just put the 9xxx series of cards on the market.

This is causing the price of the 8xxx cards to fall.

I'm in good ol' Blighty and picked up an 8800GT with 512MB of RAM for just under £100.

I can now crank up the setting to max with dynamic shadows on.

Here is my system:

AMD AM2 MSI K9AGM2-L mobo, with an AMD Athalon64 3800x2 processor. (2.08 Ghz) Running 2 Gb ram: Aeneon pc 667, DDR2, 800 mhz (matched pair), Nvida Vertigo 8600 512 MB video card PCI 16x, Seagate 120 gb Ata HD. Windows XP w/Sp 2. 550 watt Atrix 120mm PS.

Game works on mine just perfectly.

Your graphic card is too ancient (even you could't play SH3). Try to buy a new one and a 1Gb more of RAM.
However, i recomend you to buy the U-Boat Missions (to patch the version to 1.5).

Well, if this is any consolation, I can run SH IV + UBM with RFB + RSRDC just fine with:

Processor : AMD Athlon 64 2800+ @ 1800 MHz
Physical Memory : 1024 MB (2 x 512 DDR-SDRAM )
Video Card : Nvidia Corp GeForce 7300 GT

With very low settings, but then I am not into eyecandy that much. :p Had ATI Radeon 128 MB Graphics Card..decided to get GeForce 7300 GT, both affordable and compatible with the rig just to run SH IV.

Being as since this is "Black Friday", Best buy has the NVidia GeForce 8400 512 MB DDR2 PCI Express x16 video card for $80.

Ok, memory arrived today - now have 2.6 gig of RAM, and can play the game! Even with the 128 MB card (new 512 will be here soon!). Things are a bit choppy, but I'm sure the new graphics card will solve that.

Now, to get the controls down pat.....

However, sometimes nothing will stop the CTDs

:-? It usually dosen't crash at startup but after I have travelled all the way over from Midway or Australia close to where my patrol area is and then it CTDs.

Current game year: Late 1942 early 1943:
Specs:
AMD 5600+ dual core.
8 Gig ram
8800 GS w/320 ram
WinXP 64
drowning in up to date current drivers.

Game did great for a long time then it hit a CTD wall.

Was SHIII with the Pacific mod stable? Perhaps I will try that one.:-?
