I like to see you try and get here first! France is an easier target! or try New Zealand!

Do Aussies interrupt battle for daily five o'clock-tea? :) Germans interrupt all action every four years, for three weeks - during football world championship.
Under current workplace rules, smoko, sickies and liquid lunches have all but disappeared, unless your a lawyer or politician!

Well we will still have more ships at sea on Christmas day than the entire New Zealand Navy has at all, so frankly, bite me. :|\\

I wasn't being serious nor did I take the article seriously. I'm a married man so I won't take up your bite me offer. :)

Strange but I miss that stuff being across the other side of the world.

Last time that I was back there I was up at my Mum's property at Colo Heights (2 hours drive WNW from Sydney centre), I opended the back door and almost stood on a 1-1.5m long Eastern Brown Snake that had found comfort on our back door outside mat. Thankfully both our dogs (Ali the Dalmation and Zack the Aussie Cattle Dog) were inside at the time. Garden spade did the trick. Dogs got the body and head went in the fire. :dead:

Then there is that regime of always checking the inside of your shoes before putting them on just in case something such as a Funnel Web spider has taken a liking to your stinky Blundstones. ;)

Australia, greatest joint on the planet. :smug:

In 43 years 30 odd of them spent camping or humping through the bush at some time or another and I've only seen 2 live sankes in the wild. Several thousand spiders though but they are not a problem as long as you shake your boots out before putting em on. Only once found something in em and that was a scorpion in Lighning Ridge.

Danger is all in the mind. This place is safe as houses and the beer is cold. Wouldn't be dead for quids nor live anywhere else for more than a year.:smug:

Yes of course. sorry didnt mean to sound so worked up in the second one.

But as to the first, I won't hold back in cutting down poor journalism. And I cant condone promoting it.

The most dangeorus pet i live with is an ordinary "Winkelspinne" (Tegenaria domestica).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_house_spider

Oops, I just learned that Tegenaria belongs to the family of funnel webs as well. :-?

It is four years old now. Tegenaria-species living in europe are poisenous, but the poisen is harmless to humans and the spiders teeth are not strong enough to bite through human skin, they are also not aggressive, and flee (although their biting tools really are huge and look impressive). for some reason, I like these spiders. They can become 5, sometimes even 7 years old.

I sometimes catch it and bring it to the bathroom for the night, to hunt silverfishes. Wouldn't try that with any spider I meet in an australian hotel, though.

Fairly similar to my experiences. 35 years and have only seen half a dozen in the bush. This is my families property here. Fairly rough and heavily forrested despite the nasty bushfires that we had up there at Christmas 2001 and into the New Year. We were fully prepared and all we lost was our perimeter fencing (about 4km of the stuff) which had to be replaced.

There are good sides and bad to living in the bush capital.

for instance, last night i waas sitting reading the paper when i heard a scuffling noise. got up, looked around, but found nothing. going back to my chair i saw on the wall a huntsman. when it moved, i could hear it on the wall. he was 1 big puppy, i roughly measured his legspan afterwards as about 4 inches, and his body was probably 3 inches long. not to mention at least half an inch wide..:o

god i hate spiders:dead:

My wife is so afraid of them that she can go into shock if one gets too close to her. I had one spinder not long ago that was around the same size as yours baggy, when I showed my wife the remains she ran to the other end of the house. Still she has many movies about spiders (8 legged freaks and so on):hmm:
