Every mainstream American news source leans some way these days. It's how they cash in on audience bases. I just thought it was an interesting read, I of course don't know if it's 100% the truth and didn't mean to push any sort of agenda.

I apologize if it doesn't agree with you.

Nah... that was a real question.. ;) Not a try to piss at your leg.

In that case...

I honestly don't know. Just saw it while I was reading over Yahoo! news.

PD

Ah.. ok thanks anyways =)

And yes, it is an interesting read. The problem I see with scapegoating Palin is that it might backfire big time. I think it is safe to assume that she has more "fans" then McCain does.

If McCain truly is scapegoating his VP pick, I don't think it'll effect him very much. Methinks he won't be nearly as much of a player if he doesn't win this time around.

Which I find very, very interesting for someone who was more or less unknown not long ago. She has stated her intent to continue being involved in national politics should the GOP not win POTUS in a few days, but I think it still remains to be seen how seriously people will take her after the election in the event of a Republican loss.

Witht the way the electoral demographic is shifting, I can't see Palin winning the Presidency.

The nomination, probably. Her main skill as a candiodate is generating enthusiasm in the Republican base. But this base has been getting smaller and smaller, and Sarah Palin has demonstrated that she cannot win swing voters.

I agree. I think the success of such a candidacy is a conservative pipe dream.

That said, hey, if Obama screws up really badly (funny how I'm talking about him as already having been elected... but I digress), who knows - there might be a backlash and that particular side might garner more sympathy (or perhaps more accurately, Obama falling flat might dampen the liberals but energize the conservatives - and as always, an election is about being able to mobilize a support base).

I agree with you, to a point.

I mean, if you would have told me in July that McCain was going to pick her as his VP I would have looked at you blankly, figured out who she was, and then I wouldn't have stopped laughing at you for a while. Predicting politics/politicians is often like predicting the weather. Yes there is some data to go by, but it can still (and often does) really surprise you how things turn out.

You're watching "Dead like me"?

Dead like - who? No, not as long as I am still alive.

It's a series about a girl who gets killed after being hit by a toilet seat from a space station, then "lives" on as a reaper.

Actually I lend the picture from a funny book (I didn'T read :D ) , "Mieses Karma". There a selfish TV-diva gets beheaded by the toilet of a Russian spacestation exploding, and must reincarnate as an ant in the house of the family that she had treated so bad. She makes some educating observations and then gets trampled to death, next comes back as a dog and again meets her family, and so on and on...

Ah, and Thomen:

I am no Obama supporter. ;) I would not vote for him, and thinlk life with him will be more dofficult for us europeans, than with McCain. I've read a German essay that the Russian analysts and politicians also fear Obama more than McCain, who more falls into the familiar cold war schemes they know from the past. If Obama gets elected, many people in europe sooner or later will rub their eyes. Many illusions there are on how less "America first" he is. As for the Russian political class, he reminds them to much of Kennedy and his determined aggressive patriotism, and Kuba certainly was as little a pleasant experience for them as was the massive arming program launched under Kennedy.

Just because you like her does not mean that her intellectual handicap disappears in just four years. Her head is a perfect Fata Morgana.

Please, stand above her, do not lower yourself to her pathetic carricature of a niveau by defending her. She is a brainless zero, and most of your countrymen (assuming you are American) meanwhile have understood that. What is she more than the biggest joke of your nation.

Such a tactless way of expressing an opinion.

Let me ask you, if you were in a room with Palin (or Bush, FTM), do you think you could hold your own?

Judging by what I have seen of her on TV/youtube, and read of her comments and opinions and other interview desasters, and putting aside language issues: yes. And more than just "holding my own". Implying and telling me that one assumes me to be as anti-intellectual and uneducated as these two, I find almost offending.

Firstly I will put on the record that Palin isn't my cup of tea at all but I'm not going to denigrate the woman.

Four years is a long time in politics and you never know what may happen. Palin may gain the experience and credentials required to run for the job. Good luck to her. No one thought Reagan had the attributes to be a future President in his younger years.

And as far as experience goes for the moment, Obama and Palin are almost on a par.

Anything's possible. We voted for Chairman Rudd here, and the ALP had had 4 or 5 leaders in the preceding few years. its a bloody long time in politics!

The was given as an altermative to Hillary clinton., or better: as the Republican equivalent to clinton. however, Clinton may not be sexy, but she is witty, while Palin is not witty, but looks "cute". Remember when she was announced and we had the first thread about her? I said my first thought were "this is about gender and looks". And that still hits the nail on top. But many female voters for which she was aiming at, turned away, because Clinton stands for an emanicapted and liberal picture of women - who see their rights they have fought for so long being threatened and betrayed by Palin.

A snapshot of the attitudes on her:

Quickvote
Do you think Sarah Palin will be elected U.S. president in the future?
Yes 10% 1995
No 90% 18474
Total Votes: 20469
source: CNN (at the time of this posting).

Why GWB was elected at least could be explained to some degree. but if Palin ever becomes president by elections, I will give up all hope that is left for America, and turn my back on it, for that event would be sufficient evidence that it's people have gone completely nuts. If after reunification of Germany, Germans would not have kicked out the SED, but would have elected a stupid nonsens-babbler like Honecker as first chancellor of the reunited German republic, you would have said the same about Germans, right?
