Sad, really.
Mi loved dog also die for cancer.
It was 15 years old, his name was Dik.

She-Wolf 10-23-08 10:41 AM

absolutely how it is isn't it. We have to be prepared for these things, but...

Kipparikalle 10-23-08 11:58 AM

That's very sad to hear

I had (well, my uncle and my grandmother had) 2 dogs. Both very, VERY close to me.
"Ressu" and "Vahti" ("quard" in english), both gone because of age.

I know how hard it can be, but even as her corpse disappear from the face of the earth, she will always live within your heart.

FIREWALL 10-23-08 01:11 PM

My sincere condolences for your loss.

Laufen zum Ziel 10-23-08 02:09 PM

Very sorry. It has happened to us and it is losing a family member.

Very sorry to hear that you had to put your dog down. It's a really difficult decision to make but take some comfort in the knowledge that she's not suffering. Although it's been just about 25 years I still miss our border collie, Sparky. She was part of our family for 13 years & I can still remember many of the things that she used to do. My mom & dad used to have the neighbours over quite a bit to play cards. One time (it was during the Christmas holidays) Mom had made one of those cheese balls stuffed with ham as she and Dad were expecting the neighbours. Unfortunately Mom (or Dad) left the tray unattended & within easy reach of Sparky. :damn: She ate the grapefruit sized cheese ball (crackers too) and had also gotten into 3 dishes of hard candies & a dish of chocolates. When I came in after being out with some friends I found our "walking stomach" lying on her side, breathing heavily, with a puddle of vomit at one end & a pile of poop at the other. After a long and uncomfortable night Sparky recovered & was her usual perky self.

Sorry to hear, you will always have your memories.

She-Wolf 10-23-08 02:35 PM

wow, thanks to all of you for sharing your own sad times and lost companions. Murr, despite my tears you had me giggling with your Sparky's antics. Reminds me of the whole chicken that disappeared from the oven after I inadvertently left the door open. I guess Maisie thought it was fair do's as the oven is low to the floor. This lovely cold chicken just waiting... thing is, she never made a sound when getting it out of its tinfoil or in crunching the bones, and she never left a scrap of evidence. Bless 'er. Smiles as well as tears.:rotfl:

You are right, it hurts, and we probably will get another - but not for a while.
Don't worry though. The pain will ease in a while and you'll know when the time is right for another. It just takes time. For now, just cherish all the memories.:D

We had to put our dog down in 2005 due to lung cancer. She was only 8. Pretty heartbreaking. My wife, who never grew up around dogs, took it harder than me or the kids.
It took almost 2 years before we felt we were ready for another. We still miss our other dog, but the new(year and a half now) one has kept us pretty busy and is turning into a pretty good dog.
:)

Apologies mods if this is not the right place for this; I just wanted to tell you because she is the dog you see when you look at my posts.

Sorry to hear your loss,

We lost our German Shepard from the same type of Cancer,
the horrible part was he didnt want to eat, nor he was up for a walk like he used to do...that was just painfull to watch. But as soon we turned on a Garden hose and sprayed water he ran to it and played with the Water, even his illnes wasnt strong enough to take away his love for water.

Sparky absolutely loathed water. Her spring-time bath was a major ordeal. It was as if she knew that it was coming. She would moan, squirm & pull "you're killing me" faces as I would lift her into the laundry tub. Sometimes I'd wonder if people passing by on the street thought that we were torturing her. It had to be done though; that dog would stink after a year without a wash...
