Not only do they have individual realistic ranges for each type of aircraft, but in the game they don't materialize out of nowhere. They come from a base or aircraft carrier within that range of operations.

Hey! How do you know what kind of airplanes they are? Something drastically wrong there!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...noquestion.gif OK, look deep into the mysterious hypno-question mark. Repeat after me...

"I will not look at airplanes" ...come on, you can do it!
"I will not identify airplanes"
"When one is spotted I will immediately dive to periscope depth or below"
"It does not matter what kind of airplane they are"
"Airplanes are all evil"
"I will not look. I will not identify airplanes."

OK, you may now wake up, completely alert and refreshed. Don't you feel much better? Yes you do! And now because you are not lollygagging around identifying them, airplanes not identify you. And they will not call their friends.

You have just reduced your air traffic by a factor of five to ten. http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...eys/apple2.gifhttp://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...eys/Partay.gifhttp://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...ys/c_band2.gifhttp://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a.../grouphugg.gif

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...noquestion.gifSo whenever you feel the urge to identify all those planes up there, just look into the mysterious hypno-question mark and ....

If you were seeing Zeroes just west of Midway, that means the Midway invasion is underway! GO FIND THOSE CARRIERS!

Of course, the IJN has an airbase on Wake Island, and if you get too close to it you might encounter patrols from there.

Except maybe that one...

The most annoying fact on a forum is that:

which is typed on the screen is not necessarily what is read :damn:

I therefore tend to err on the friendly approach, any admonishment, I take light heartedly

I can see that guy, who I couldn't figure out how to use, is going to be well-employed!

LMAO with this thread.

OK, stock game. No mods yet, tho' I'll prolly try RFB (RUB is great fun in SH3).

Dick spots plane.

Dive, Dick, dive!

See Dick at 150'. Dick is safe here - even sharp eyed Japanese observer with 16x glasses can't see Dick so deep.

Dick surfaces. 'Nother plane!

Dick travels underwater in day. Surface at night...ahhh, much better. Fewer headaches.

Better to cruise on surface, with scope up. See more, hunt more, bring enemy to bad end more. But if pesky airmen are feeling their oats that day, travel underwater in underwater travelling boat.

P.S. - do not slug it out with nefarious airmen unless you have absolutly no choice, as in "can't dive" or "too shallow" (why am I in shallow water????).

kiwi_2005 10-07-08 06:57 AM

speaking about airplanes (Noob Alert!) is there a key i can hit so i can view the damn plane when one of my lookouts spot one. I hit the ( . ) key and nothing happens! Just wanna knw whos about to attack me. :)

Kiwi, that was a conscious decision by the devs not to allow that in SH4. You have to locate that plane visually all by yourself. This helps make diving into the default action when visually spotting a plane. It also makes radar your best friend.

Its the best thing to do really. But I do like the air layer in RSRDC and the one in TMO "evil airplanes". Both are eons ahead of the stock layer that shipped with SH4.

Happy Hunting!
