Having studied the model a lot, I believe that a good start could be done with a P-Class resized in a powerful 3D editor like 3DSmax or similar and then reworked in the bow and stern areas. For the conning tower the already existing ones are good enough, it's the hull what needs to be made new :hmm: Sadly I lack the skills and the software to do the task myself, otherwise I would have happily started already.

given a correct detailed blueprint and the hull model to go from I can do that.

but as I am finishing our IJN subs, patience is in order..

As I recall, someone already made this model, but it's sitting rusting somewhere. Can't remember the name of the guy who posted about it, but should be on the search function.

Isn't there a Narwhal in FOTRS? If it's by AOTDMadMax is gotta be pretty damn good.....off to reinstall FOTRS and check....

It was just a Perch or Salmon with a new gun platform over it, and anyway it wasn't available in a reasonably good shape.

The real model should be the one in your sig ? Strange torps tubes positions but i like the shape/design

The one I'm thinking about just had the new 3D model made for it, but was never rigged up and put in the game. Which one are you thinking of?

Here it was, Nisgeis: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=141662

Yeah that was it, I couldn't remember his name and I never looked at the model. So it was a re-model of an existing sub, without matching? Shame. :-(. You don't have any pics by any chance do you?

he better come through after he's done with all those japanese boats!

wait is kelt gonna do a Narwhal?

Regio Sommergibile 03-31-09 03:08 PM

He said that after IJN mod could take on this project...

gimpy117 03-31-09 09:00 PM

I can. I have the same problem everytime I import/export from the game, I think 3DS flips faces at random or S3D does, I don't know.

what I now do is to use the last icon on the top bar in 3DS, click hold, another, a red one 1 quick render (active shade) appears and it does create a texture window where the thing is seen like it would in the game :
- flipped faces appear either transparent or black,

select the object,

go to 2 modifier,

click the + on the 3 editable mesh line

select 4 element

5 click on the flipped part of the object
(left alt - click hold on wheel to rotate in 3D)

go to the right window

a hand appears, click hold move down

till you see :

surface properties

6 click on flip

when you are done with all the flipped faces, click on editable mesh to close it, save the scene, click on object and in the menu go to export selected, export as .obj.

as you have not modified the vertices count in any way you do not need to redo the uv map, which is a major pain btw

Export with normals and then use S3D to import with normals.
