It depends on where you are. You can see tens, if not a hundred meters, in certain parts of the ocean. The Northern Atlantic generally had limited visibility while the Med had much clearer waters. Which was partly why the former was easier to operate subs in than the latter (as airplanes could spot submerged subs). There's lot of photos (some modern) of underwater subs taken from airplanes.

Generally speaking, SH3's water is too clear.

Talking about planes, does anyone know the depth that DCs detonate from planes?.This is for the stock 1.4 version.

I imagine the water in some of the Pacific areas to be almost crystal clear,or at the very least clear.
:hmm:
I myself use the OS to monitor DCs dropping if they are near me,so long as I dont keep it raised too much out of its housing.A useful aid sometimes that tactic.

Wouldn't it be dangerous in real life probably (if you are too deep and do that ) though ? i thought maybe it could damage your periscope with the pressure , not sure if it was built to be deployed when the sub is under periscope depth , well just asking , if someone has a definite answer about this , would be nice to tell , cheers ;)

Approx 25 metres.

Thanks jim.

So,at 50m I would be safe from the initial blast damage, but may suffer minor damage from the shock wave?,as I have noticed once or twice from aerial bombardments that I get minor damage to either the flaks or the fore deck.
Theoretically, how far could a blast wave travel through water from a DC?,or would this force be depleted quite quickly as soon as it detonates?.I understand sound travels faster and further through water, but does kinetic energy?.

Jimbuna 08-19-08 02:30 AM

At 50m you might sustain minor damage, but that will be dependant on how close the explosion occurs in relation to your position.

As for kinetic energy.....just remember there are limitations to what can be replicated in the game engine.....it is now over 3 years old http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

Still a top game after 3 years too

Cheers anyhow.

Hail all,
I set water clarity at 3 using SH commander, but I think it can see just as well as before in my existing career. Do I need to restart the career for it to take effect?

thx

Your better off performing a 'rollback' when in port before making any adjustments.

I've adjusted at every level from 1 to 20 over time and have noticed marked changes.

A silly question, but did you click 'Apply' before clicking 'Okay'? Mine is set for 3 and I can see about 20 yards in daylight, which means that from the initial 'Ship Camera' viepoint I can barely see the propellors from the stern view.

Or were you trying for a better view? Higher is clearer.
