When President Carter was running, this was one of his campaign promises. Once he was in office and indoced, all of a sudden he would not talk about it. :hmm:

Maybe the aliens got to him?:hmm:

OR

The truth is so mindblowingly awesome, he wouldn't share it with us...

I saw one in the summer of 1990. Very impressive. This is one of those subjects that attracts all kinds of people though. The non believers, the believers, the liars, those desperate to see a UFO, and those who have actually witnessed a UFO.

I took the attitude from day one that the best policy was to keep it to myself and say nothing. I know what I saw though.....and it wasn't from around here. :D

Or conversley the truth may have been so ridiculously mundane that he couldn't be bothered wasting the effort to tell us :hmm:

I don't know if the government's hiding something...well, the government's hiding lots of things; I just don't know if they're hiding aliens.

Do aliens exist? As has been said, the universe is a huge place, and it would be silly to assume they didn't. Are some of them more advanced? As Skybird pointed out, it would be arrogant to assume otherwise. This also holds true of the question of whether they are significantly different. The only possible answer we have at this point is "I don't know." Speculation is fun, but without any real data we can't tell anything.

My philosophy is: When they come knock on my door I'll be more sure. Until they bother to do that, screw 'em.

That is the only intelligent position to take.

Unless we are presented with evidence that proves UFO existence; or presented with evidence that "proves" that UFOs don't exist (pretty tough to do), the only answer is that we simply don't know.

That, in my opinion, is the great thing about science. It allows us to say "at this time we don't know."

Funny, the most likely view, that of Skybird, no one has discussed. Because it is the most frightening? Ah well, we are ants in the Cosmos anyway.

I believe I touched on it, but unfortunately it's all speculation, one way or the other. Speculation is fun, but I still don't know.

I suggest you start wearing a NEW hat and refrain from calling the the UFO Hot Line 3 times a day as a good start.

Here's your new hat free of charge - stay off the phone - land line and cell phones you may have - just don't use them will be a good start for you until you wear your new hat 24x7 AND don't use a microwave oven for two weeks - them mirowaves MIGHT effect you:

Invest wisely in today's hot aluminum market.

Once you get aluminum wrapped around your brain for a week, your post, might make more sense, if, and when. the Martians arrive.

Pardon me, I just got a text message that I am way overdue on planet Earth. Hopefully my flight will arrive safely and will allow me to make further posts to this very educational thread.

I personally think that most UFO sightings that aren't weather related in nature are actually sightings of test aircraft. The USAF has had a fascination with disc shaped aircraft for decades.

The USAF even bought all of Avro's (A Canadian aerospace company) research and developement into disc shaped aircraft in the 1960s.

And the USA aquired the German research into disc shaped aircraft, plus the German scientists that were working on it and possibly a working prototype at the end of WW2.(Which is what I believe actually crashed at Roswell).

Having said all that, there are UFO sightings that can't be explained by weather or test aircraft.

It's such a tricky subject, because there are so many hoax videos out there and so many hoaxers of one kind or another. The few who truly had a real experience are highly unlikely to go public with it.

Forgot where I got this ... not that old though:

Police chase UFO over Cardiff

A police helicopter crew gave chase to a UFO after it almost collided with their aircraft near a military base.

The pilot was forced to bank sharply to avoid being hit by the mystery aircraft as the helicopter was returning to the Ministry of Defence base of St Athan, near Cardiff.

The three crew, who described the UFO as 'flying saucer-shaped', then gave chase, getting as far as the North Devon coast before they ran low on fuel, it was reported.

The police aircraft was hovering at 500ft and waiting clearance to land on June 7, when those onboard spotted the other craft hurtling towards them from below.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "We can confirm the Air Support Unit sighted an unusual aircraft. This was reported to the relevant authorities for their investigation."

It was reported that the aircraft closed in at great speed, aiming straight for the helicopter which swerved sharply.

"They are convinced it was a UFO. It sounds far-fetched, but they know what they saw."

The helicopter crew are said to have crossed the Bristol channel in pursuit of the UFO, but lost sight of it and had to turn back due to a fuel shortage.

I've never seen anything suss, and I never expect to. But I have little doubt that we're not alone in the universe, and I have little doubt that there are more advanced species and less advanced species in the universe, and I also have little doubt that there've been extraterrestrial visitors to the earth.

I personally hold out a hope that we'll get a benevolent visit a la star trek, and I hope it happens in my lifetime. But in reality, I know I've got little chance of it, but you can't live without some sort of hopes and dreams!
