I do agree with Dumicus. I think they need to make it a bit more "gritty" and more evil/gothic like. The other games captured this perfectly, but I can't help but think of WoW when I see some of the screens. Still think it will be great though.

I disagree,

what I see is DII in a very nice made 3D jacket.
first of all you PoV on the game, its still DII with the posibilty to zoom in when you want.
the graphics are very artistic, really nicely done.

perhaps because some action will take place in the forest in daylight it may be something to get used to because most of the DII worlds played in the dark, rainy forests or hot deadly desert and my favorite Hell.

they left the main parts of DII intact and thats what I love about it, I was quiete afraid if they would made a DIII it would be WoWish with the camera position and gameplay and ofcourse my biggest fear Pay to Play.

WoW looks more after based on the Warcraft 3 Graphics/scenery.

also its a big step as we are used to DII with the 2D graphics, so looking at 3 might be weird at first.
as long the game contains lots of Tombs , dungeons and as a gran finale some Hell like place I'm happy :yep:
and knowing blizzard the story line must be good!

Great stuff. I loved playing the first diablo and had even more fun playing the second. I havnt played any RPG games since then but this 3rd game will be one to look out for.

Ducimus is right about the story. Mephisto got his stone smashed so there is no chance of him coming back. Its been so long since ive played it though i cant remember if diablo n baal got their stones smashed?

I think the only thing they can do is a prequel. As long as the paladin is back im happy

Ducimus 07-01-08 03:22 PM

A prequel would , storyline wise make the most sense. The ending of act 5 in D2 really shut the storyline down with the destruction of the worldstone. (?)

this is what Wiki has to tell about the story line:

The only confirmed NPC is Deckard Cain[5], who has appeared in both of the previous games.
Deckard Cain's journal on the official site brings players up to speed on the events of the first two games.

I am hijacking this thread.

Why is there such a huge issue with the new vision of Bethesda interpretation of Fallout 3?

If you have ever played fallout and fallout 2 you would understand what they are doing to FO3.

Bethesda over the years have made alot of bogus games like Oblivion and Startrek Legacy.

I've used to play Daggerfall amazing RPG game of its time. Bethesda great at that time hired a new guy named Pete Hines. He his vision of Bethesda started to change. He wanted a bigger market. So he started work Morrowind for PC and now then Console platforms. Morrowind a dumbed down version of daggerfall and was a fraction of the world size. Still Morrowind was a very good game.

At that point Oblivion was being developed and alot of TES fans had high hopes including myself. Oblivion was a joke. After you got over the nice FX and great sound effects the game was boring. A waist of money. But Hines suckered so many gamers. His strong fan base I believe was the console genre and most like it where the PC fans didn't. Especially when he charged fans for there new addon mods. GREED!

Startrek legacy well just go to there forums and hear how that went when it was released.. Man oh man. They tried to integrate 3 different game engines from 3 different Dev companies till Bethesda bought the rights and put it out beta game for the public. That was a mess. But Bethesda racked in the cash because they bought the name and used it. Suckers fell for the name.

Now the issue with Fallout 3. Well they're reinventing the game now called Oblivion with guns by Fallout fans.

They've stripped the game of its essence and canon. They're no true sequel to Fallout and FOII. Its really a new game but has some small similarities to FO. Like the blue jumpsuit or revamped pipboy.

Ofcourse there are alot of people who like bethesda new vision because they don't care about a 10 year old game gone dead. Or never herd of Fallout before. Most are just casual gamers and thats what Bethesda is banking on. Suckers who will fall for the name. They bought the rights to use the name and profit from it.

They don't care about what fans say. They have blocked fans who are against there ideals. There are endless article on how bethesda sensors its forums, news etc. Beths PR department works to discredit or shutdown sites or articles on there negative feedback about FO3.

Don't believe me do some research,

Alot of article here.

I never said Fallout 3 will be a bad game. Its part of the Fallout universe. Problem is its not Fallout 3 sequel. I believe and many others do to, they should just change the 3 to whatever. Its not fallout 3!

I asked them why its so hard to change the name?

They said to me they're not going to change this late in the process. I said to them Fallout fans have been fighting your since day one years ago. Pete Hines and his goonies are spitting on the fans for greedy profit. They've done it with every game cameout since his arrival. They simply don't care.

Its war. Grab you pipboy, jumpsuit and minigun... Dogmeat its hunting season.:yep:

At least blizzard know how to keep its fan base.

Sorry for the rant but I can't stand bethesda's strategies against fallout fans.:nope:

Because without fans there is no sequel.

Heres an article about wars between Blizzard dev teams and bethesda dev teams fighting it out.

Thanks for enlighting me. I dont normally pay attention to pre game hype (its deliberate), so i was just kinda curious.

Back on topic, it seems im not alone in my commentary about the art motif in Diablo3, i thought this comic was funny

If Fallout 3 preserves the Fallout 'vibe' from 1 and 2, it'll be an excellent Fallout game.

If it doesn't, it might still be an excellent game.

Either way: We won't know till we play it no matter what the screenshots look like or how the devs say the combat system will work.

'Bloody Mess' better be in there, though.

Ilpalazzo 07-05-08 03:54 AM

I got very excited when D3 was announced. So I swung on over to the official website and downloaded the gameplay video. While waiting for this super slow download I decided to look at the screenshots with great anticipation.

I was dismayed.

I had to keep checking the website to make sure I was actually on a site for DIABLO 3 because it looked way too ****ing cartoony. I thought for sure I was looking at some sort of Warcraft game, but no, there it is, DIABLO 3.

I read up on the features and I am fairly impressed by them. I like the seperate loot. Then I saw the gameplay video and saw some bad things man.

All these years, every now and then I would say to my friends,"They really need to make a Diablo 3. That would be so great." We loved Diablo 2. So we watch this video and quickly became nervous. It starts with a pretty cool fight, but then we see the corpses immediately disappear. At that point, I think I had diarrhea. Then we learn about the red health orb thingy's. HEALTH ORB THINGYS?!

Sorry, but I feel like I waited a long time for D3 and it is just NOT looking like what I expected. I expected something darker, scarier, diabloer.

I have been hating how each new game seems to want to ditch health packs and potions in favor of easier healing methods and play where you don't have to worry about dying. Not enough details to jump to conclusions I know, but the lack of pots and inclusion of RED ORB THINGYS leads me to believe they are going to try and dumb things down a bit. I hope they wont have revive checkpoints ala Bioshock, or rebirth fountains ala Titan Quest. I'm surprised I didn't hear it was an mmo or coming out on xbox 360 or having a fee for Bnet. Any of those three things would've just killed me.

What's really depressing is that I hear this game went through 2 or 3 other forms of artistic style and they settled on THIS.

Also, seems like Necro is out :(

Really though, the game does SOUND great. The barb and Witch Doctor (walla walla bing bang) sound like they may be fun. However, I thought the WD summons looked really crappy. The environmental interaction they seem to be trying to put in the game is, well, not interesting, but not bad. I couldn't help but wonder what the other classes were supposed to do on that part where the barb hops over the gap. The inventory screen looks disappointing, but I could probably live with it as I am not familiar with how it's going to work.

I wonder if D3 will have synergies to skills like they added in D2 (1.8? 1.10? I forget). Synergies added a great deal of complexity to the character building. In fact, I still play D2 in large part because of the added synergies. I hope D3 will have more useful skills. Diablo stays interesting when there are so many different character builds. If everybody plays the same few cookie cutter builds it tends to get bland.

If it weren't for the crappy cartoony graphics I would be much more excited about this game. Oh and the RED ORB THINGYS. Everything else just is. Look at the concept art on the official site. The game looks absolutely nothing like that. The textures are smooth, the models look exaggerated (huge pauldrons are HUGE), the colors are bright and oversaturated. It is just too WoWish. If it looked anything at all like the concept art I would be happy.

I can only hope that in time I will just accept this.....this.....thing.

Whoa long post. Nobody is going to read that. LOL, sorry guys I'm just so worked up over this. And If you look over at the official D3 forums or perhaps any D3 forums you will see a lot of complaining. Almost all of it over the gay graphics.

ps. Is anybody else hoping that the game's environments aren't going to be linear like in Dungeon Siege 2? I felt like I was on rails in that game. The gameplay demo and screens aren't exactly 'open'. Then again we have only seen a small part of the game so meh.

WolfeHunter, don't get me started on Fallout 3!!!

WolfeHunter, don't get me started on Fallout 3!!!

I wouldn't worry about the cartoonie graphics Ducimus mention it reminds him of wow, well wow cartoonist graphics are crap compared to Diablo 3 - but 9million and counting don't play wow for the graphics they log in cause of the game play. Gamers still play Diablo1 & 2 today with sh*t 800x600 screen graphics  The flashy cartoonist graphics in Diablo 3 are to attract new players the rest of us will ignore that and more concerned how the gameplay is going to turn out. For me as long as its a hack n slash click fest like the previous games i'll be happy. If they want to add in movie scenes in between with 10000 polygon characters instead of 300 then thats ok by me but if the gameplay is crap then Diablo3 will be in wow terms an "epic fail" :yep:

Ilpalazzo 07-05-08 06:50 PM

Yea I still play D2 in 800x600 on my 37" monitor. At first I thought it was horrendous because it was so low res, but come on it's diablo so I still play it anyway. So I think I may be able to get over the cartoony graphics, but not until I can actually play the game. At the very least, I will just adjust saturation and brightness through vid card.

I'm still worried about other things though. I really hope the RED ORB THINGYS turn out ok. They didn't mention anything, but I am going to assume there are BLUE ORB THINGYS for mana. Hmmm maybe mana just regenerates really fast this time? eh w/e we have so little to go on and everybody is speculating like crazy.

edit. there are a bunch of fan made screenshots of edited d3 pics to show how it looks and how it should look. They are pretty nice. lemme see if I can find one...

This one is pretty famous. linked because it is a fairly big pic.

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/7807/itshouldrh5.jpg

Not perfect, but it's a start. There are others like it. Mostly just people messing with brightness, saturation, and perhaps even sharpness on some.

Wreford-Brown 07-05-08 06:52 PM

Is it just my imagination or do the graphics and settings look very Neverwinter Nights?
Having played Diablo II for many years I eventually went onto other things and picked up NWN as a similar game. If they can combine the two then Diablo III has the potential to become another classic.

kiwi_2005 10-10-08 11:46 PM

New Wizard character introduced. Looks like they will be a pain in the neck in mulitplayer... Nah Barbarians FTW. :)

Yup she will be the character I will play... Nice little girl who can warp time itself...Hmmmm:hmm:
