true what you see with the foam i think is acctually inside the missile tubes aint a clue what it is maybe a fire surperssion system no pictures of the reactors id doubt much they would release that detail anyway.

Looking at compartments two three and four note theres no bulkheads they must have collapsed when the second explosion ripped through the submarine, also they did find about 82 bodies still in the wreck when they went through it they got the 23 out of compartment nine about a month after she sank so 105 bodies were recoverd which means that 13 were incinerated immediatly on the second explosion.

She was raised between august and september 2001 a year after she sank by smitt momoet of the netherlands using the barge giant 4.

All pictures are availible on the web.

I was wondering what they would do with the wreck after they finnished with it it turns out they are scrapping the hulk shame because i really think something should be kept as a symbol of her existance and also as a monument to all who died in her.

If only the would keep the sail or even the crest of the submarine on the front it be worth it.

Did they find evidence to confirm the H2O2 theory in the end?

I understood that they had confirmed a fuel leak in a Type 65 high test peroxide (HTP) 650mm torpedo was the cause of at least the initial explosion. I assume the second explosion was something set off by that - another torpedo?

Yeah, the primary theory for the first explosion was that it happened because of the Hydrogen-Peroxide fuel of the Torpedo (Using this stuff was very irresponsible of the Russians, considering what happened to HMS Sidon), the second explosion was most likely the other Torpedoes in the tube

I suppose but then again 118 sailor headstones is a fair monument as well i'd think.

I would still expect them to keep some part of the boat, symbolically

Kapitan 06-23-08 03:54 PM

that is true too, but many are burried in moscow most of the families are living in st petersburg fair old commute is that.

They kept other submarine stuff from other heroic submarine crews which is why im asking why dont they just save the sail for a monument even in murmansk or gadzhieo.

The kursk was flag ship of the entire northern fleet submarine division she deserves that atleast and so do her crew.

If the Kursk were an American sub there would be various family and veterans organizations contacting their elected representatives demanding that they do something like that.

Wouldn't that also work in Russia?

Probably because the Russian government doesn't view it so much as a memorial to heroism, but rather a vivid reminder of their negligence for everyone to gawk at. Which is too bad.

PD

Under putin russia sort of went back to its old communist days so no one speaks out even now dont forget the fathers and monthers are of the soviet generation to question the ability of thier own government is beyond them for the simple fact they can remember a time not so long ago speaking out ment a trip east never to be seen again seeing as the government had a very uncanny way of making people "dissapear"
