It's a good tactic with any heavy armor just not as survivable with powered turrets. You have a good supply of martyrs and it's economical you can't go wrong.

Except that supporting infantry should be able to stop such an attack without much difficulty.

If they are working as a team or if the infantry are deployed or if they aren't too busy trying to stop them getting to their Bradley's or if ............... Bottom line it's a good cheap tank killer. Hell, you can buy a bunch of motorcycles for the price of one AT missile. There never seems to be a shortage of martyrs. You can't go wrong.

Well suicide attacks are nothing new in warfare Brad. However I seriously doubt that a bunch of idiots on motorcycles willing to die for Allah would be any more successful than the Kamakazis, Banzai charges or the human wave tactics used by the Red Chinese in Korea to name a few examples.

Don't get me wrong, like any other enemy tactic they would be something to prepare for but i'm sure the threat could be dealt with easily enough.

Apparently a successful (if somewhat suicidal) tactic of the IRGC in the 1980s war against Iraq was to attack Iraqui tanks with motocross bikes and RPGs.

I wonder what "real" weapons were shown. For example, were there any new aircraft prototypes. On youtube, I only saw the usual suspects, Phantoms, F-5s, MiG-29s and the last active Tomcats in the world....

Correct, Ant. Our military used them to spot and even sap tanks. They were actually very effective for scouting purposes.

If you look at them as akin to a hussar's horse - high mobility to get in and out, but maneuvre and fight on foot - then it makes some sort of sense. Even with an infantry screen, I would be worried about this sort of thing as a tanker. I'd want something more effective than an RPG, but the concept is interesting.

I'm not saying they are a super weapon but they could be pretty effective from an ambush. You don't have to teach them to barely fly and you're not going to have them on line for a human wave attack and they aren't going to be seen from 2 miles out on a flat desert. One kill per ten bikes would still be a win. Even a mobility kill would work. Used in depth would make anyone seriously nervous. Low tech doesn't mean they are an easy kill. Used effectively would cause the enemy ulcers and then there is the old axiom, underestimating the enemy will get you killed.
