This appears to be for an early version of SH3. Will it work with the latest SH4

the fix should be the same so you will just have to create the sh4 version by changing the corresponding files in sh4 but the differences in sh3 and sh4 are so minor its as simple as changing the values to the same settings he used for sh3.

PM him and im sure he can give you any help you need

Guys this is frustrating me.

I would really just appreciate help with what files to mod to stop the instant death screen and damage when bottoming.

The Thomson file I can't download from the rapidshare because of thier looney kitty cat laidened code system that tells you to enter 4 letters with a cat and give you 5 figures with kitties, and two of those being numbers (who came up with that stupidity?).

I've sucessfully settled on the bottom at 0 knots, but then sustained damage over time as the boat slid. That was the last time I tried that.

You never answered the question about which mods you were using. You say you have the latest version, so that's 1.5, and from all accounts posted here there are no issues with bottoming. Therefore, there is no reason to mod the game to allow this behaviour, as it is already allowed in stock. So, either your game files are corrupted and you should re-install, or you have a mod conflict causing oddness. Do you have any mods installed?

I am running 1.5 uboat missions, with TM overhauled.

I no longer am concerned about the bottoming.

What I wanna do is limit the instant death screen to when the boat is fully engulfed in an explosion, or when it goes beyond crush depth.

But I am getting no assistance in this area.

I have tried the no instant death screen mod, but noticed that the zones are a lot less than those in SH4, so I am apprehensive about using it.

I would really like to know what sections of the files trigger the Instant death screen.

this is what phillipp thomsen told me about the death screen and how it works:

The deathscreen is based only on three things: subhitpoints=0, crew=0, flooding=fullcompartment. If any of these is true, deathscreen pops-up.

The compartment fully flooded appears to be hardcoded, so far nobody managed to crack it. The same goes to all crew dead. But the submarine hitpoints can be increased or decreased. What I did was, increased dramatically the hitpoints, but made all compartments inside more vulnerable and the equipment more easily destroyed or damaged. So this simulates better the real thing.

But increasing the submarine hitpoints have one downside: it just wont be crushed under high pressure from going too deep, so I had to increase the water-pressure-crashing-speed of the hull to match the new hitpoints.

hope that helps, try sending him a PM if you need more help.

Right. Bottoming the boat with forward motion (any kind of motion) or with a lot of vertical speed will cause a huge a amount of damage.

Try stopping the boat. hover just a couple of feet about the bottom and then settle it down.

Thats what i do. Not that i bottom the boat all that often. Not something i particuarly like to do since

a.) It doesnt fool the AI
b.) Depth charges have no where to go but right on you.

I suspect that if its not a stock issue, then its an issue with reduced hitpoints. Subs in TM do infact have half the hitpoints of stock, and 5 or 10 less armor , i forget exactly, but in stock, some capital warships have those kind of statistics. That had to change.

If we had an acutal boyancy model aside from neutral, i might be more concerned about bottoming the boat, but since all they do is hover, its really not an issue. You could hover 1 to 2 feet off the bottom without any problem at all.
