But not a very funny funny.:arrgh!:

In my limited experience with earlier GWX I found them to be a waste of ammo and time. I just leave them alone.
|
I did one in the earlier GWX...just for the sake of it!
(Was still a legitime Target) And it pulled a Titanic on me...sans Leo and Kate...and the annoyin' Celine! I've never seen such a pretty sinking...even if it lasted half a day!:hmm: |
You know.. we should put a model of Leonardo Dicaprio and kate Winslet and even Celine Dione on the bow of The Queen Mary or any other ship that looks like Titanic. DAMN I'd love to sink that boat !!
"...my heart will go onnnnn and ooooooonnnnn...*GLUB GLUB GLUB*" |
I realized it was a waste of ammo when I visually estimated it to be about 800-1,100 tons and 1 torpedo did not absolutely decimate it!! Anyway... then I just got angry and I surfaced and put about 500 rounds of 2 cm flak into it and it went under. Waste of time though since I got no renown or tonnage for it... eventhough it WAS an enemy ship. Oh well, a Kaleun lives and learns I guess. Let this be a lesson, friends, light ships are a waste. :damn:

Seems that IRL if you managed to stake out a light ship, you would certainly be better rewarded by waiting around for the traffic that a light ship would no doubt attract. There is evidence of this tactic being employed by the Germans in their Drumbeat campaign against the US.
The light ship also nicely silhouettes your blacked out targets. Sinking the light itself seems pointless as it would be easily replaced with a new one or a lighted buoy. In which case all you've managed to do is give away your presence. ...and would seem to warrant a nice scolding from BdU I would think. ...now in a game, yeah why not, blow it up. |
I sank one but wouldn't do it now if I came across one. Now I would just hang around the vicinity and see if any other shipping came through.
I machine-gunned it, it went down fine, no problem. It blowed up good. Real good. |
Yeah... so U-2547 got sunk. Once again I was WAY too overconfident in my XXI. Anyway, I started a new career (100% historically accurate this time) and I was on my third patrol in U-11, hunting off the English coast in November of 1939. We were northeast of HULL in some of the worst weather I have seen (you know, the type that will FOLLOW you all around the North Atlantic for weeks at a time) when my lookout announces "Ship close aboard, starboard beam!!" So I scramble up to the bridge to find.... A LIGHT SHIP!! OHHH GREAT i think... another one of these!! I then remembered that they always have another ship nearby... and I soon found the large tugboat near by. Due to rough seas and inclement weather, I couldn't use the flak to send the tug under, so I positioned myself 90 degrees and sent a TI into her port side set to impact detonate. Turns out that was the only kill I got all patrol due to the horrible weather. I credit your advice and my previous experience with this sinking... because my first thought was, "Light ships always have another small coastal vessel near by." So, thank you my fellow Kaleuns!! As always, GOOD HUNTING!! U-11, out!
|
Yep i blagged one first time out...was unsure what it was..one hit..sent to the depths. I would not do it again..save the ammo for something worthwhile and more tasty.:)

When I first learned manual targeting I tried shooting anything I came accross. I came on a fishing boat. Lined up my shot and I actually hit the little thing. The torpedo ran a little low and the ship blew out of the water completely and landed upside down. I couldn't beleive I hit it, imagine their surprise.
