I think that if Ubi devs have in mind a future buildup based on the cold era, this game needs to be focussed to the multiplayer session. Its true that single missions are needed, but the main purpose has to be the capability to have command not only of attack and SSBN submarines, surface hunter units have to be playable aswell.I know that this means a great effort, but theres no need to implement these with full detailed 3d stations, just real eye candy exteriors and efects and a full operational menu.
This way,the game would give us the chance to command either submarines or to manage operations with Carrier Battle Groups for example.

take the campaign from Operatioin Flashpoint and extend it into the surrounding ocean, and maybe even expand the conflict further.

I really hope not. If they do SH4 will go the way Il-2 1946 did. At least for me.:nope:

If I see another U-Boat sim in the next 2 years, I'll choke someone.:stare: Hell, they're making an expansion for the Axis fanboys but I suspect that just won't be enough.

Now you guys are talking about Harpoon. They tried to build a full 3D (version4 I think) of full world naval-air and the effort died after several years. We are still stuck with 2D Harpoon after 15 years of development. If UB or anyone else has learned anything from that debacle, there simply isn't enough market in this nich to support the vast effort required. People also aren't going to wait 5 years for it to be released and will play Sonalysts and Pacific Storm instead.

Face it, WW2 is simply better and more interesting then modern wars.

With subs it's pretty obvious why i'd prefer the old style. You need to creep in silently to your enemies and get in range. In modern subs, you get a blip on the radar, press a button and he's dead, you didn't even get close enough to see him.

Same with flight sims, locking on targets and heat seeking missiles are purely unsportsman. A real combat pilot dogs his opponents tail shooting machine guns until the target is so full of holes he can't fly anymore.

Obviously each to their own =) I just thought i'd say there is a market for more WW2 subsims even though you poor fellows disagree.

Perfectly right. All games that tackled modern/nuke sub sims ended up being a small niche of what's already a niche - sub simulations. Just check here, ar subsim, how dynamic is the activity in the SH3/4 forums against that on Dangerous Waters, Sub Command or whatever modern platform simulation, and you'll see what I mean. For most players, nuke subs are boooooooooooooring, which means losing money for any producer. Even the famous Sonalysts seem to have stopped at Dangerous Waters, with no new game planned for the future.
WW2 is where sub action is, so I hope SH5 - if we ever see it - will be a complete and bug-free simulation of WW2 sub war, with everything that was left out in the previous installments:
- playable subs from more nations
- wolfpacks/submarine AI
- competent surface AI
- interaction with surface assets
- realistic radio communications and message interception
- Enigma encrypting
- whole sub interior rendered in game
- many other features requested by the community.
