Found this by Matrix Games

Panzer Command: Operation Winter Storm
http://www.matrixgames.com/games/game.asp?gid=327

Similar to Combat Mission but graphically improved. Doesn't look as complex as Theatre or War but at least this little laptop can run it!

Give this one a go too Dowly

edit: Forgot to say, it is turn based but the units will react if the enemy is seen

Okie dokie, just bought it!

I never really liked the Combat Missions, mostly because of the turn based action.

Good to hear, mr ferret! Publishers like this one - who make quality games for adults - should be supported.

Here I am trying to stop the Russians from entering Berlin in the later stages of the war:

Just a quick question, is there a button or info screen where you can see all your troops that are in the mission? Takes too much time to go and find all the guys with the map. Something you can click on the unit and it takes you to it's position.

You can assign groups with ctrl + 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. I dont know anything else.

Dowly 02-09-08 06:28 PM

Yeh, I figured that out.

Okie, after having played few missions now, I must say this comes close to CC series. Tho, there's quite a few things I dont like. The biggest thing, almost a game breaker, is that you cant go into buildings and the battlefields have absolutely no cover expect for the few trenches and trees & bushes, which makes it more of an tank battles than infantry. The other thing I dont like (surprise, it's from 1C afterall) is the sounds. I can fart louder than those explosions are! But that I can change, when I can get the fricking SFS extractor to work. Which brings me to a funny thing, the engine is modified IL2 engine with pretty much the same file structure, still, ToW is allowed to be modded whereas IL2 is a big no-no. :p

Yeah, but the tanks more or less ignore the infantery as long as other tanks or guns are operational, and a few lads with anti tank-grenades might come in handy.:D Also, Bazookas or Panzerfausts hidden behind buildings are deadly.

Oh, and entering buildings is possible in the addon that is on the way. (many have complained about the same thing)

Agree on some of the sounds, particularly AT Guns and light tanks sound like fire crackers. Let me know when you find or make some brutal sounds!

As soon as I get this fricking thing to work! :rotfl:It'll be more than likely a Saving Private Ryan/Band of Brothers mod (I love the 30 .cal sound in SPR).

Edit: aaand 2 seconds after this post, I got it to work. :)
