Nice to see you can give it as well as you take it! Welcome aboard!

You should be fine with your video card to play at medium to high settings, as long as your CPU and RAM are up to spec. I run SH4 with a 6200 card on medium low settings without a problem!:yep: May not have all the nice effects but it's still pretty good!

Now I just have to talk my wife into me buying a new computer!:-?

I have already d/l the 1.4 patch, but I figure I will wait for a bit before adding MODS. Just so I don't run into any problems caused by not installing them properly.
This seems like a good group willing to help beginners and I appreciate that, I just hope I don't become a pain the backside with questions.
I have already found a lot of useful info on this site, and I even used a free program called Cutepdf Writer to save some of them (because I know I won't be able to remember where to find them) Just wanted to say hello. Also, I want to say I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Dave Bunnell, one of your modders. He seems to have been very well liked and a BIG loss to the community.

Welcome to the club. Enjoy your time, we have a great group at this forum.

Good hunting!

Thanks for the info, the video card is the part I was a bit worried about. UPS is suppose to be delivering the game tomorrow, but we had a big storm today. Not a lot of snow but a lot of bad visibility so I hope it gets to the delivery truck on time.

I found the link to test and was a bit above recommended on the card so tomorrow I will find out. The rest is no problem, I have a Pentium D 3.4mhz dual core, Ram is 2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz running in Dual Channel mode (That was full bars on the test) Motherboard has 800mhz FSB. The test did suggest a new driver for the video card so I installed that.
Ya, what's up with the "asking for permission" I've been married for 31 yrs and she never "asked" me when she bought stuff. :hmm:

You wouldn't happen to be talking about the one on page 175 of "The Victory Binding of the American Women's Cook Book Wartime Edition" that was dedicated to Gen. Douglas MacArthur, would you?

Dont worry about DavyJones, hes too busy looking through a empty footlocker:p .

WELCOME ABOARD, peabody!:sunny:

Just my luck. I have to have a go at a smartyboy. I guess he was lurking around, shadowing everything around here. That French Oninon Soup is the 'special' one with lots of Epsom Salts.:yep: :rotfl: Oh, and my locker is pretty filled up with stuff from you guys while you were out on patrol. But could someone please explain why anyone would want to have a pink tutu in their locker?:hmm:

On a serious note, I find this place refreshing. I've been on sites where they don't get my really dry humor and I know I can be a handful. Great set of submariners here. So, Mr. Peabody grab a seat and enjoy the ride. If it's one thing that separates a submariner from an aviator is- PATIENCE!

I have a question for you, since this sim is based in the Pacific in the war against Japan maybe you can help me out: Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helments? Isn't that a waste of money?
I think the patience is the one thing I am going to have to get used to. I am used to flying long distances for missions, but not at 15 knots ;) And when I would fly a night mission and watch two SA-10s lift off (They are surface to air missiles for those who don't know) and they have a range of about 100 Km, very fast, you can't outrun them so it is over in seconds. It will be a big change to hide from a destroyer quietly for a long time, cause I am used to it being over in seconds one way or the other.
Either I evade the missles or I hit the silk. Oh, BTW, do these subs come with parachutes?
I just checked UPS and my Sub is "Out for Delivery" should be here this afternoon. (I sure hope they remembered to install the screen door I asked for!)
Well, Thank you all for the nice welcomes!! I agree with DJFL it IS refreshing to see a forum where people get along and are helpful, I am so used to seeing noobs ask question and get 10 of the same answers..."READ THE MANUAL"
I have to go, I see I am not a "Bilge Rat" anymore, so I have to go redo all my t-shirts and uniforms and change them to "NUB".

When you get your manual you'll see why no one tells you that!!

M. Sarsfield 01-31-08 01:02 PM

Yeah. It's nothing like the SH1 manual.

That's not good news. I hope there is enough info to play the sim. Any turorials or info you know of that you could point me to? I am getting bits and pieces from these forums, I did get the WernerSobe videos and they make sense, but without the game in hand (Couple more hours it should be here) I don't really know which buttons he is pressing and what they do. I am sure it will take a while to figure out, but I am persistant.

Enough to get you up and running in the manual I guess.

Check the stickies up top to get more info and tips. and if in doubt....ASK.

Sub simmers are pretty dedicated and a vast fountain of knowledge to exploit.

M. Sarsfield 01-31-08 01:46 PM

The keyboard reference is about all you will really use from the box, other than the installtion CDs. I hung the included map and ship reference on the wall for eye candy.

DavyJonesFootlocker 01-31-08 02:25 PM

I'm a flight simmer too Peabody. You'll get used to the 'slowness' of SH4. The trips are long but the action is hot! If I were you I'd check this site for info as the official manual leaves much to be desired. If going hardcore there's tutorials for that here. If you wanna know how to get da ladies then call 1-800-DJFL-PIMP.:yep::lol::rotfl:

About the helmet thing...I don't know, maybe to prevent their heads from bumping into the cockpit panel when they hit the ships?

Giving away secrets....now we know where the pink Tutu came from.

I was just watching some of the videos and have learned a bit about targeting and using the map. It will probably make more sense when I actually get the sim. Should be here soon. Our street is one of the last ones that UPS hits before going home.
