Canovaro & I were referring to the manual/auto button in the attack screen, obviously wasn't that!

thought that was probably what you were making reference to, but you are correct, wasnt that.

@ Abd_von_Mumit: sorry to hear it... from what i can tell the best way to resolve this is to restart the game or perhaps even RTB and try starting another patrol.

i have not had any problems with OLCs GUI before or since, and i will continue to use it.

i think it was a fluke deal.

Just wondering...is this a problem if you switch from the Obs to the Attack scope? Maybe the TDC is locked to the Obs scope and wont allow changes while looking through the Attack scope?

Abd_von_Mumit 01-18-08 11:05 PM

No, it's not that. The problem lasted long after no target was even visible in the periscope, so nothing could be locked. There was also no use of locking anything in the observation periscope. :)

...

Actually, I think this button in the torpedo settings screen (F6) is the same kind of button as the TDC 'panel show/hide' button, only looks different and is in a different place/page because OLC did so. (he's the best judge on that ofcourse) It has the same functionality of allowing the dials to be changed by hand and updating based on bearing when in auto mode. The only difference being that the dials are not visible when on auto because the panel isn't there in the first place.

However that doesn't help your problem much. My question. Have you once assigned a key combo to that TDC auto/manual-update function (with Setkeys)? Maybe you accidentally pressed it causing the button state to go out of sync without showing the panel. Other than that I don't have a clue of what might be. I mean, before suggesting it might be an obscure bug. [shivers]

none of my key settings have been changed.

I have not modified them in any way.

:hmm:

It happened a couple of times to me in stock SHIII, switching between tubes did the trick for me:up:

That was going to be the first encounter. I played with the Range & AOB wheel as well as with TDC dials to get used to it and they worked very well. But when I made my approach to the prey... disaster. :) The dials, when visible, were still reacting as locked - they changed as I moved the scope. All the rest worked (music, icons, views, key shortcuts and so on) but the TDC and WizWheel (Is-Was). I tried to bring it back by repeating what I'd done before, but nothing helped.

You're not alone, Herr Kaleun. :)

Must read this forum more often!

1st post of the OLC GUI thread (mods forum) updated with a workaround.

No, it's never happened to me. I suspect it may be related to how powerful the machine is... are you running SH3 on a low-spec rig?

Did you check my update to see the workaround? Post #1 in the GUI thread :)

LOL, ok thanks for answering - so much for that theory! :-?

I think I can give a logical explaination of why this can happen even without setkeys or manual tinkering with commands.cfg files. As some of you probably know already the button that opens the TDC in this mod also TOGGLES the manual/auto state of the TDC. So the problem occurs when the TDC is already in manual mode when you bring the panel up, which will turn it into auto and lock the dials. As some of you already concluded this can happen if you use setkeys or change the commands.cfg (german or english).

But it can also happen without any keyboard input because there is a second switch for the TDC, in stock and this mod any any other mod I have seen. This button can be accessed by right clicking on your weapons officer (or his icon). That will bring you to the TDC but in 3D-view. This is like a second fully functional TDC station, not as practical as the 2D but it looks nice! Somewhere in the middle is the switch you are looking for and it's state is indicated by green or red light next to it. I think green is for manual and red is auto. Clicking this button an odd number of times will make your TDC out of sync in OLC GUI. For simplicity it's probably a good idea to stay clear of this station when using this mod. But if you do get that problem for whatever reason, you can fix it here.

looked into the workaround... good thinking.

If it happens again i'll give it a shot...

OLC i have to tell you mate... your GUI and GWX2 are the top two mods out there for SH3 in my book.

I used to be a really active flight instructor and the E6B flight computers I used to have to teach people to use were similar in operation to the pull down Range & AOB finder... that thing and I get along quite well.

Nice Job.

I think this is probably answered in the other thread but one thing i have noticed is that the map screen never dims for night operations. is that related to your GUI?

Thanks :D

Yes, my mod removed the night filter... long story and suffice it to say that I'm not entirely happy with that solution (and neither are a lot of other people it seems :-?) but no filter is better than the stock filter IMO, and I've already spent too much time trying to find a middle ground that I'm happy with and (I had hoped) others would be too, so I've given up on it for now.

Normally when people object to something in the mod I have a very good explanation for why it was done - everything in the mod was very well thought through if I say so myself - but when it comes to the night filter my excuses and explanations get a bit wooly, so I'll give you the bottom line: *puts on childish voice* it's my mod and I want it that way.
