There's a video on www.silenthunteriii.com about thermal layers, where you have a WWII Kaleun talking about how they never knew where the thermal layers were, they just knew that sometimes, when diving deep, the enemy would loose their position, and then, they'll say something like: "Geez, I think we crossed a thermal layer Herr Kaleun"

Little known fact about Bernard:

Bernard is the inventor of the thermomter that pops up when a turkey is done cooking in the oven. Apparently he came up with the idea on one of the those very long patrols. How Bernard got this idea is best left to your imagination.
