Try DLing the shIV scene.dat mod as it fixed the problem for me (its in the forum somewhere)

No, shIV scene.dat don't fix the problem. I still have black things in the sun and moon.

IMO it must have been something with the nvidia cards, on my old system with a 9700pro I didn`t get this artifacts with the 16 km mod. Havent`t tested GWX 2 without it, so I can`t tell if it has something to do with the 16 km mod.

But at least I`m somewhat "glad" being not the only one... :damn:

btw. I`m seeing bright dots on the horizon at night, something I haven`t encountered with the Ati card too.

`night

Same Thing

I upgraded my video card to a nVidia 7600GT ... same thing! I've tried everything except the 8km sky ... Sometimes it almost goes away and other times it gets on my nerves ...

I looked in the readme for SH3 (the stock readme that is), and it does mention the artifact on the horizon. Its just a graphics bug on a few different cards.

Its a stock issue, not GWX or 16km.

In my older rig, with ATI card, no such problems.

Yep. I was afraid of that.

The 8000 series Nvidia cards appear to not play well with SH3. The trend was emerging with user complaints that related to GWX... but we had altered/modded nothing with the environmental effects that would cause graphic anomalies (black triangles) as described in a number of places.

Though it answers a question that repeatedly comes up... it is sad to see it happen for so many users.

That's strange. I'm on an 8600 GTS 256 MB and I've not had that problem for some reason...

Aw well. Vanilla SH3 was made in 2005. A pity that so much came out in 2006 that changed gaming. It doesn't support dual cores nor does it like some of the more advanced cards.

I have a 64-bit dual core setup and have not had a single issue as a result. Don't you mean Windows Vista?

Hey!
I play on a 8500GT, and I got the black-alien-flickering stuff when I tried the 16km mod, after I disabled, the aliens left....
So perhaps something with the 16km mod doesn't work well with newer nvidia drivers!?
Hope someone finds a solution, 'cause I would like to turn on the 16km mod again....
Regards/Bracer

Hi Bracer,

Please refer to my post here concerning Nvidia 8000 series gfx cards:

Yeah, I read that one earlier...
But since I haven't noticed the artifacts neither in stock sh3 or with GWX2 without the 16km mod using my 8500GT, then I had no better idea than to blame the 16km mod.... I know I shouldn't blame anything without looking further into it.... ...but I only get the trouble with the 16km mod. So if the 8*** series is the problem, then I hope someone finds a way around that, if perhaps older drivers work better, "16km for 8series only" or whatever!

 Sry Lehmann, not really sure what i'm trying to say...but... I'm just having a hard time accepting this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=725217&postcount=20 and hoping there is a solution to it!

"On ATI Radeon 8500,9000,9200 there are graphic artefacts consisting in missing triangles
from the game sky."
Found this in SH3 readme, so it's probably the same with some Nvidia cards.... To bad, then there might not be any solution, I should probably just be happy that it only appears with the 16km mod.....
So it's not a Gwx bug....

I get flashing black triangles on the horizon using an ATI Radeon x1950 Pro videocard with the 16km mod activated, so it's not an NVIDIA only issue. Shifting back to 8 km sorts out the flashes on the horizon, but I get those flashes (albeit smaller) on the skydome, above the bridge. This seems to me a stock issue, since the same thing happens whether or not I enable GWX (1.3 or 2.0).

Also, in my case, Reece's SH4 scene mod gets rid of this annoyance.

"Also, in my case, Reece's SH4 scene mod gets rid of this annoyance"

But can it be used with 16km mod? Is it based on GWX2 so that it doesn't change anything from this great mod?

BulSoldier 12-19-07 03:59 AM

I have dual core too, and sometimes fps drops.I guess the dual core is not working at full capacity. But no problem with UFO in the sky. (7950GT)

No, it's an 8km mod (actually 9 km, like in SH4). Apparently, the SH4 scene.dat cannot be ported to SH3 in a 16km setting.
It writes over GWX if enabled, but it works nonetheless.
