I fly with a virtual squadron in Falcon 4 (Open Falcon 4.5 mod) and connections are usually an issue, especially in a dynamic compaign with a lot going on. You can save the campaign, but only after the flight, not while in flight, but there is a big difference when a "long" mission is maybe 2 hours vs. days for SH3. It would be great to do in SH3, and i've discussed playing online with a fellow pilot, but we are unsure of exactly how it would work and don't have the time to devote to endless hours of sailing and seeing nothing.

Tool.

what would be really fantastic is if the online multiplayer campaign could be time compressed to 256X.

time compression would be inhibited if any boat is in contact with the enemy (visual or hydrophone), or within 5 miles of any shore line. if any player on the globe meets that criteria everyone playes at one X

if any player needs to reduce time compression for any reason the session would pause and a window would pop up saying...

"Player, GoldenRivet needs to reduce time compression temporarily"

at which point the player in question could set time compression to any lower value, between 1X and 128X

I have seen the MP environment in SH3 and I have looked for a game, but I never see anyone on. How exactly does the MP aspect of the game work and do many people participate in it? :)

in my experience, the multiplayer game works sort of like a big single mission with no time compression. each player has his own u-boat, and you kill the convoy or task force.

generally, torpedoes end up everywhere, and they dont discriminate.

Kind of like in the movie Ronin, when the plan is for two groups of people to ambush a card on either side of the road, and they end up taking out each other and not the car?

I can just see the look on evey Kaleun's face when they realize that that is not a depth charge blowing up, but an eel on their port side. :damn:

good movie... and about like the description you gave. (Deniro really called that poser out)

though this doesnt happen in MP games all the time it can be a common occurance.

I noticed over at the WPL forum site, they have a campaign thing going using both GWX2.0 and Stock sh3 patched. I am going to check it out.

Then take the results of that tour and make a new MP mission for another zone and just toss all the participating subs there. You can still split up the sub groups by sending different MP missions to each group saying that they're patrolling different areas and then maybe bring them all together again for other missions depending on events that occured.

I'd be interested, but there's no way I could do a drive all the way from port to the mission areas in 1x, do my searches in 1x, and then return home 1x. My wife would kill me if I left the computer on and had to wake up and jump out of bed when I hear my computer speakers shout "ALAAAAAAAAAAARM !!!!" several times a night.:dead:

Exactly. My idea was not to play 24h a day, but cover a limited range each sesion of gaming. Example: We choose to play in a saturday morning. We start ar Brest and go to the english channel with the intention to block it. That would give aprox 240Km, with a VIIB we can cover in 7 hour unless u want to play with a IIA.... :hmm:
Another approach is: I start from brest, you from cherbourg, the other guy from Calais and we set ameeting point as a wolfpack . Someone discovers a convoy, gives its position and we converge to it.

Thats the spirit. we play until we are up to, then u give me positions, number of fishes, crew status, etc, and the most important, we start at the same time later... no need to play while doing our wives... Contacts will be there again since we are playing the same campaign...

MIssions could be set to meditterraneum, where distsnces are short.

The most interesting point of this kind of gaming is not the sinking of ships itself, but the way to it -- plot interception courses, track their course by hydrophone things like that, and the wolfpack stuff.

Yes if people agree, that would be a GWX event. It would be nice to have installed: GWX 1.03 + carotios map mod (has more cities) and OLC GUI mod (wich I love:oops: ) If we have crashes for 3 times, all should have a stock installations ready to start playing. Since our achievements should rely on ou abilities as uboatman, no cameras are allowed :smug: ... only 100% realism.

your best bet would to mod it so the starting harbour (although late in the war) will be in the english channel, then its easy enough to find ships ect becuase there only a stone throw away and its only about 2 hours max at about 18knots to get the english port warning sirians going if they spot you

I remember talking about this when SH3 first came out.

We dicussed one boat starting in contact with the convoy, and would need to call the other boats in.
