:o Windows 2000?

Never seen that offered anywhere. Not in the last 2 - 3 years anyway.

Still, only reporting what I've been told.

Yeah i read that the SP3 for XP gives a performace boost. Not going to bother with Vista's SP1 tho, my vistas running just how i like it so no need to break it.

You seem to be one of the lucky ones then. I've heard some bad stories, mate. :dead:

I'll tell you whats the worse thing to come out of Microsoft its not Vista or Windows ME even but its the anticopy protection or activation require BS. The user forks out a couple $100 to buy the latest OS installs it on his PC, couple of weeks go by and the honest chap decides to upgrade his hdd installs a nice 500gigbyte loads up vista and hello its locked out. WTF straightaway without even asking if he is, MS has branded him a possible theif by limiting his OS unless he gives them a ring and proves that he brought the OS, if he can't prove it then its bye bye $500.

The pirate DL MS installs adds the no activation fix and bang he can change his hardware 100 times or install on 20 PCS, if he wants and no worries about been given the limit issue. Yet MS made this technique to keep the pirates away but all its done is ZERO - whos it really hurting? The honest user.

Ive read of users so frustrated that they find out about the fix, download & use it. I can understand MS protecting there software but theres got to be a better way. They need to create a CD/dvd that is rock solid when it comes to copying there is no way a pirate will be able to copy from it.

This happened to me the other day i install a new dvd writer and vista takes 15 or so min to load i then get an activation require cause of my hardware change. What the! Get real, I aint got time to talk to someone with broken english, DL fix load vista in safe mode add fix restart vista back to normal. I can blardy well add as many hw changes as i wish and so i should i paid for it! You buy a car you dont head to the car sales manager when you want to put a new engine in it do you?

? What is MS on about ? Stupid.

Either that or DL Linux its FREE

Fundamentally impossible. There will be a phase where the data is unencrypted and running and the pirates can leech off that phase. Anyway, the more sophisticated and effective the copy protection, the more likely it'll start conflicting (e.g. StarForce) with honest users, or even dishonest users who nevertheless bought this software honestly - bet they won't do that after a StarForce conflict.

It is easy to find online, but for legitimacy, here is Microsoft - they are still selling it themselves:
