Take 2!!!
|
I wonder if external shots can be included to see the entire sub's dynamic behavior.

I like two...
And I wish my wave action looked like that, even with ROW!! What do you have loaded there? |
I'm a bit happier with 3 than with 2...
Nitpicking, the roll motion in both are a bit wrong. The sub should roll when traveling parallel or mostly parallel to the wave troughs and the lifting action of the waves is abeam of the hull. In the vids, the bow convincingly plunges into the wave crests which are ahead of the bow, the wave troughs are 90 degrees to the subs line of travel. Technically, there should be little rolling motion at all.. |
i like 2 better, seems to pitch more...
Still, it doesn't really cope with SH4 limitation wich really makes it like the pitch&roll are a precalculated animation sequence triggered when weather is bad and isn't reacting according to waves motion at all... But this has nothing to do with your work wich looks better than stock at least. Do someone know if it's really a precalculated sequence by the way? really seems so... sometimes you are rolling to the left the same time a wave going from left to right hits your left side (and should then make you roll to the right)...?!? Amazing! the pitch, from what i recall, was correctly implemented back in old SH2 (though overdone but still working according to sea motion...). Go figure why sometimes they just "uninvent" the wheel lol :damn: |
Looks like 2 is a clear winner again - interesting. It's tough to capture this sufficiently in such a short video - in actuality, the pitch and roll behavior is noticeable different now (with ROW at least - haven't really tested with stock that much) depending on which direction you are sailing as compared to the direction the wind is coming from. Of course, I was taking the videos for the polls from the same direction each time, to keep that constant, but in the testing I definitely could tell the difference between steering into the wind and sailing cross-wind.
Therefore, it seems possible that there is actually some sort of "natural" interaction going on between the boat's movement and the wave movement, as opposed to it being some completely divorced animation triggered sort of thing. However, I haven't really been able to tell for sure yet if the movement on different headings relative to the wind is actually better, or just different, if you know what I mean. I'll test that further now that I've seen what sort of combination most folks seem to like better. I've put off most further testing of this for a few days while I check the compatibility of some of my other mods/tweaks with the new patch, and wait to see what Leo and the crew might do to ROW based on patch 1.4, 'cause I don't want to spend a bunch more time testing this on stock 1.4 and then maybe have to do it again when ROW gets tweaked (assuming it will). Thanks again for all the help and input  |
