I am not buying this silly add on but I'm sure plenty folk will, ching ching.

Snuffy 11-19-07 04:31 PM

I am on the list of those not buying into the add-on either.

I like TM just fine thanks!

Not a good attitude. I personally think there should be as much support for this as possible - I said this before and will again, if we want further commercial development of subsims, it should be supported.

Naturally if the add-on is trash and adds nothing valuable you shouldn't buy it, but if it is enough value... why not? Especially if it may help finance further commercial development.

All due respect to modders, I think we still very much need commercial subsim development to continue the hobby. At least until the day when open-source can match the level of efficiency of pro development, but right now that's still ways away for us.

Realistic, no. However, I love the XXI. If they could fix it and make it work right in SHIV, creep engines, sonar firing without using periscope, that would be awesome. I am wondering if they are testing the fantasy, non-historical war to see if SH5 would work as a cold war / nuke sub sim.

I am getting this. Say no to partypoopers!

mookiemookie 11-19-07 05:46 PM

I'll be getting this too, but I'll anxiously be awaiting the modders to take it out of Fantasy Island.

Needless to say, I like Uboots more than Fleet Boats, so naturally I'll be getting this.

And I don't really much care about the fantasy vs. reality debate.

It's a Game. Remember that.

And I'm running stock SH4, with a *few* token improvements, LV water and some other thing...haven't tried, nor will I EVER try TMaru or RFB. Although I do have GWX running on SH3 cause SH3 WAS lacking something, SH4 in my mind is alright from a gaming point of view.

Like I said,

It's a Game.

I was thinking the same about XXI boat, walter and XXI have the same external hull , perhaps it can be exported to Sh3. or used for a future sh3 in sh4 mod.

I see the addon as a mix of new features and improvements where the modders can take things from their mods, not very realistic but it must be supported by the comunity for the possibility of future addons and games.:yep:

Stay in the med with a IX-B boat is not very realistic but i did it ( i have to return to gibraltar again)

Since the SH series to date has been about recreating (semi-historically) what it was like to fight as submarine captains in the Atlantic or Pacific theaters during WWII, the expansion goes beyond semi-historically and goes well into the realm of fantasy in my eyes.

I’m more of a Pacific kind of guy so I was a tad disappointed when they announced that it would add U-boats instead of a few other things the community would have liked to have seen. I understood that it would appeal to those that prefer the U-boats and anything that brings more players over is viewed as a good thing to me. However, the latest news has disappointed me greatly for reasons that have already been gone over in this thread.

Will I purchase the expansion pack? Yes I will, more to help support the series and for any fixes and updates it’ll bring to the original game. However, I doubt I’ll play the U-Boat much if at all.

Just think, it puts the capabilities of adding a U-boat campaign in the Atlantic into the modders hands. I think this has to be one of the overriding factors in the developers making this decision.
