It may just dound like it rather than actually being someone saying it. It comes immediately after "25 degree angle on the bow plane, Sir" as a hatch is being closed. :D

Thanks for sparking me with an idea though

Duc, if your idea is a new set of profanity laced commands, I for one would love it, and download/install it in a heartbeat!

Ditto!

As far as I can remember they used clips from "U571", "Run Silent Run Deep" and "The Enemy Below". I don't think "Below" had been released yet.

JCC

I caught part of Below on cable once, and immediately recognized the sounds from PA in it.

You know all this talk about the movie "below", i figured it was some obscure 1950's movie ive never seen. So ilooked it up:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276816/

And suddenly i remembered seeing it at the video store years ago, and dismissed it as another B movie horror flick, only with the added indignation of being on a submarine. Was it any good, or was my initial impression correct?

First time I've seen Ducimus being wrong. 'The Enemy Below' is an excellent flick, and looks at both sides of ASW. Kurt Jurgen (German Sub CO) and Robert Mitchem (US Destroyer CO) both play very believable characters in their cat and mouse game.

If you haven't seen it, at least rent it and watch. Its worth the rental fee.

PS, I had to crash dive last night, and listened real close to the sound effects, but still can't hear 'it'. That clip is from U-571.

Your friend,

Ducimus 11-12-07 07:45 PM

I think were talking about two different flicks.

The Enemy Below (1957)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050356/

And

Below (2002)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0276816/

I'd have to say that Below was to wartime submarine movies was what Snakes on a Plane was to airline disaster flicks. 'Cept you didn't have the really cool Samuel L. Jackson to give Below some shred of dignity.

Profanity Mod

I'm down with that mod subsuck. But how do we do randomness with the crew sounds though? I would contribute with some sound clips. We would need people from around the states to mix it up. Stuff like, GQ, GQ, All hands man your battle stations, and hearing "who does this F*(%*$& guy think he is sounding GQ, I just got off watch. When ordering a crash dive random Pots crashing about and the cook hollaring about how dinner is all jacked up, when you call away the DC team some sounds of b*tching and moaning and wrenches being dropped etc. It would add to the immersion factor and be hillarious too.

Indeed we are. 'Scuse me for the confusion, but I'm old and easily confused. Someone else had mentioned 'The Enemy Below', then started talking about 'Below', which I ASS-U-MEd was a contraction.

My thoughts on 'Below': WWII Atlantic Sub patrol turns into a spook story after mistakenly torpedoing a hospital ship. Some creepy moments. If you're looking for a WWII ONLY movie, this won't do. There might be some good sound bytes that could be included into our sound files, but I didn't notice any - too busy just watching the movie. :D Its worth the rental fee on 'dollar day'.
