Regarding that Newfoundland issue...
I've seen recently a tv-series, on all sorts of pilots and "pliots to be", recruited for Allied air unit that was intended to patrol North-west Atlantic...
It was problematic mixture of various guys who have to be trained -from the basics of serious flying,... bad weather navigation and formation flight,...etc.
As far as I remeber, it was late 41 and somewhere at Newfoundland... correct me if I'm wrong !
Anyhow, I have never met anybody from that part of world... and did not have intention to make a joke on peoples origin.
