What makes the poll fairly worthless, is the answers will be different depending on which forum it's placed.

Ask in the SH3 forum, and SH3 will be labeled the best.

Ask in the SH4 forum, and SH4 will be labeled the best.

So it becomes a bit pointless.

Honestly, I like them both because they give me different things. Completely different feel/atmosphere. Sometimes I just feel like playing a German in the Atlantic, sometimes I don't.

SH4 got pushed out the door early as a business decision by Ubisoft. As I recall, SH3 was plagued with similar problems, and the community was in an uproar, until patches and modders caught up with the problems.

SH3 has a unique ambiance, and to this day there is amazing modding work being done to it. I have re-installed it simply because of Racerboys SH4 effects mod, and onelifecrisis' new gui tools.

Just like SH3, SH4 is being patched, and there is also some truly amazing modding going on with it. With 2 more years of technical advancement in gaming in general, it is actually the technically superior game, and it should not be criticised for 'framerates' simply because the game has moved up with current technology, while some gamers equipment has not.

I think both games should be respected for their various strengths, and the players of each, and their choices, should be respected as well.

Cheers.

Really? Do I need to point to the archives, containing dozens of threads and hundreds of posts on how awful SH3 was, and how awful UBI was for releasing it unfinished, and how awful the third patch was because it broke as many things as it fixed?

Selective memory is a wonderful thing.

Well put SS  People do seem to have short memories sometimes.

You're always going to have people who complain on the same subject. Vanilla SH3 with the fourth patch was great; it made the game fun, anyway. Perhaps people look in the wrong places and don't look past the bad?

Opinions are also a wonderful thing, but unfortunately we're just two guys sitting down on the Internet and typing this stuff up whilst our opinions will never really matter in the world, sadly.

That's life, though. You always have someone that disagrees with you, but although I may disagree with your post, I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

SH VII in 4D ;)

Stealth Hunter 10-22-07 02:35 PM

Aces of the Deep > Silent Hunter

Don't get me wrong. SH was revolutionary for the time, but AotD was just more fun, in my opinion.

SH3 with GWX............................The ultimate subsim so far..........:up::up::up:

 The worst SH there could be is stock..(US) version that I know of...but the mods improve these games at least to my opinion a 99%!:yep: I never knew why we would need so many different mods like WAC when we have GWX..But I guess other people like them anyways, I only have 2 versions of SH3 (1 Stock 1.4b, other GWX103) I use stock for online, but GWX I use it for SP mostly.

GWX 1.03 with SH3!

Aces Of The Deep (still considered to be the best by some)
Silent Service (Sid Meyer's classic, also thought the best by some)
Silent Service II (same)
Das Boot
Grey Wolf
The Hunt For Red October
Jane's 688i
Dangerous Waters
Sub Command

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but not even close to being all.

Silent hunter 4.

SH3 is getting a bit to old, you load up SH4 and take a look at the detail nothing beats it, sometimes i load up SH4 just to perv at it :rotfl:The only thing SH3 is still alive today and not dead is because of the modders, although some might say the same can be said about SH4 but even so i would still load up sh4 without no mods just to view the beauty of what ubisoft have created.

IMHO
