My calculations put $8 million in 1952 at about $480 Million in todays dollars, so that sounds about right. Add in another $20 million for improved avionics, and I think his $500 million is about right on the mark as a pretty accurate estimate on what it would cost to build a replacement today, on assembly line dollars - assuming no new research needed to be done.

and theres bound to be even more improvements the B-52. that plane will last probaly another 50 years.

Strange with the B-36.
Pretty much everybody could buy a Boeing 747 and would a much more capable intercontinental bomber than a B-36 with just a few modifications.

What do you think, it should be possible to construct a GPS-guided glider bomb similar to LongShot and drop it from a high flying airliner that filed a regular flight plan and does not deviate from it.
Commercial GPS, components of homebuild aircraft and a conventional freefall air bomb (thousands of which must be lying around in Afghanistan or Iraq) would suffice.
The airliner would be an inconspicious freighter of some charter airline, the bomb(s) being simply rolled out of the sideways cargo door with no or minor modifications to the aircraft itself.
From 20,000 feet even an unpowered glide bomb would have a huge radius and given that even a freighter 737 could carry more than one, it would be a devastating terrorist attack without any suiciders.
How's that for a Tom Clancy novel idea??
:D

pretty good if you ask me. ive read almost all of his books including all of the Jack Ryan sereis. something similar he did in Executive Orders- where some crazy Jap airline piolts crash a airliner into the capitol building killing a majority of the govrnment. oh how somedays i wish that would realy happen...

lets seee with the right amount of money i can legalize a tank !!!:hmm: as long it has rubber tracks and DOT lights and side markers, and it passes emissions (that is doable, i can reweld a new custom exhaust which features catalyctic converters to clean the exhaust gasses), and tada! although i wonder about insurance :shifty: (not that i need it since 3.5 inches of reinforced steel to protect me from "up to 120mm rounds, small arms fire, rocket propelled grenades (rpg), some land mines, armor peircing rounds
:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

Well, I'd personally forego any comp and collision, since you can invest in a bucket of paint to cover any accidental damage to your tank (unless you run into another tank, but that is probably highly improbable). I would however up the liability since running over your neighbors car or through garage accidently could get rather costly! :D

....So how in the world can a private person be able to purchase a flyable example of a B-52?

You can restore anything. So what if a civilian owns a B-52 too. He can fly it, that's fine, but is a single bomber really a threat? Maybe to an under-equipped country, but outsode of that, no! A B-52 is a monster target for a jet jockey to play with. See my video on how quickly a badger bites the dust - I just noticed a tiny blip too when I wasn't even looking for it - 30 seconds later, it is plumeting to the ground!

The point is, I think the US is over-reacting on tearing up its old aircraft.

Sell him the bomber, but keep bombs under lock and key :)

gas is no problem i wont be driving a 60 ton main battle tank through congested city streets:shifty:, and i cant get a speeding ticket cuz there is no friggin way a t-72 can even get to 100/kmh :arrgh!:,(max is 60kmh) might be a good commute to school whichi is around 2km away. so i go 4km every day total:hmm::hmm: (740hp diesiel engine) the max range on crusing speed is 500km / 900km (with axuliary external mounted fuel tanks), and it can run diesel, gasoline or kerosene :arrgh!: o and it has 500mm worth of armor on the front and sides i believe, it can withstand a M1A1/2 abrams MBT tank round up to 2km away

EDIT: i can also get the following military hardware:
t72 price ranges from (55,000$-125,000$)
comes with rubber tracks so it can be drivin on city streets
1.BMP1/2 (35,000-90,000$)
2. FLYING condition MIG-21 (85,000$)
3. T55 MBT (33,000$ -55,000$)

here is there inventory of tanks

VonHammer 09-03-07 08:56 AM

well then i guess if oyour driving a T-72 to school, they might have to think twice about towing you. no problems finding a parking spot. :arrgh!:

You mean:

Q. Where does a T72 park?
A. Anywhere it wants to.
