Wrong!

You can of course show me otherwise.

Was it Rumsfeld? I'm not really sure. Thats right it was G Bush who said Mission accomplished or was that someone else?

Please stay on topic: 'shock and awe'.

As a moderator you should know changing the quote is out of bounds.

Ah ha....I do not moderate this forum. I leave my moderator hat at the door when I enter this forum. I have not authority here to do a thing other than post. ;) BTW, you just changed your again.

Well sir, you have changed you original post for "wrong you can show me otherwise" to
Quote:

He may have used the term but I don't believe he stated it was a strategy or tactic.
Therefore, he may have stated this but I did not claim it was for strategy or tactic. You somehow read this into my statement of "This is what he ment by shock and awe." Apparently you did know who 'he' was or am I wrong on this account? At any rate, I'm not quite certain what you are getting at from a joking statement I posted relating to shock and awe.

Well, you are misplacing my comment, be that as it may. You have yet to show me where GWB, Don Rumsfeld or anyone in the US military establishment used the term 'shock and awe' when it came to Iraq strategy.

I certainly remember hearing it from the media.

Now if you read my post I said "I believe it was G Bush" I did not emphatically state it was G Bush that said this statement. Hence by response on Rumsfeld with question mark. Be that as it may....... In all reality "he" could be anyone. Hence your question, 'Who is he?" My response, "I believe G Bush". The word "believe" meaning I'm not sure. But instead of setting the record straight that you do not BELIEVE he said this or anyone else other than the media without some support information leads me to wonder just what you are after:hmm:

Ok, the 'he' was the media guy...... Sound good?

I'm just after the truth. I suspect you are as well. Too many times what we hear or read that is attached to those who didn't say or do what the media reports. I understand how you or anyone else may have thought the 'shock and awe' phrase could have been attributed to GWB, Don Rumsfeld or the US military establishment. As we know now none of those people or entities had anything to do with it. It came from a 1996 report which sounded 'sexy' to the media (see blitz krieg).

I appreciate your honesty in the end and hope that in the future you won't spread mis/dis-information based on your political stand or the stand of the media.

Cheers
wg

What kind of comment is that.....? Once again, I said, "I believe G Bush" I did not emphatically state it was G Bush. What part of that did you not understand? I would appreciate if you would read what is written and not read into it what you want. Spread of mis/dis-information good Lord. Arrogance becomes you! If you are after the truth then you would simply state that G Bush was incorrect, it was media type deal that brought it into focus. Yet we have several posts to get to the truth. I wonder if I said, I believe is was Daffy Duck'? How many posts to get to the truth? One can only guess.

My honesty in what sir? If my honesty in stating "I believe" and not really knowing? Then great. Misunderstanding. My only deal here is why several post about it? Simply state it was a media thing and not G Bush. I simply state, thanks, I stand corrected. Not so hard.

You tell me, you're a Subsim moderator, I'm not. I suspect you thought yourself correct in spreading bad information.

PS Arrogance becomes you!

"Shock and awe" was a term used by US military commanders to describe their initial air attacks on Saddams regime. Curiously it was designed to minimize civilian casualties and preserve public utilities and infrastructure as much as possible.

"Mission accomplished" was a banner hung from the bridge of a US carrier by its Captain to note the successful completion of his ships tour of duty. Bush made a speech on that carrier soon afterwards and the banner was visible behind him at certain angles. The media miss-attributed the message to Bush in order to imply that he making that statement regarding the war itself.

Thanks for clearing that up August. I was curious as to why I could not find a clip or quote direct from Rumsfeld. The mission accomplished bit is interesting.

Thanks August! That clears up things quite a bit!

Don't know which carrier this was but here's a nice video I found:
